Tesaro "?" Vs. Teknetics T2--Relic hunting

I use a Garrett Sea Hunter 11 for beach work, so I am used to noise and digging just about everything. I am also the proud original owner of a Tesaro Silver Sabre 11 early 90's vintage machine with a 8"CC. This machine was used primarily for coinshooting and has seen no use since moving to my new state of SC.

With proximity to many possible Cival War sites--my quandry is--all the advertising hype of the various manufacturers for relic hunting. The SS2 operates at 12khz. Tesaro models I'm interested in--the Vaquero/Tejon operate in the 14khz range. Another unit is the Teknetics T2 w/display that operates at 13khz. I'm no scientist--what benefits would accrue to me by spending and additional $500-900. on a new machine when khz operating ranges are so close? Wouldn't I get the same performance with a larger coil for the SS2 at a fraction of the cost?

I have not done any measurements or scientific study, however...
I currently own a Compadre, a Tesoro, a recently purchased F70 and I am trying to absorb a ton of information I am reading on Nasa Tom's site about the T2, F70 and F75.
He IS into scientific tests and knows about the electronics more than anyone I have read so far.

My conclusion, opinion and answer to your question is this...
There is just way more power coming out of and available to use with the F70, T2 and the F75, and I KNOW that the Vaq has a reputation for scary depth because that one is also a super hot detector and I have seen things happen in the field regarding depth using this one that are hard to believe.

I don't think frequency has much to do with this at all, it is the pure punch through power that these units possess that matter more.

I know or have read of many relic hunters and they all have their favorite units, but many of them use T2's, F75's, F70's and Vaquero's.
They all have manual or automatic GB of some kind and that helps, but I believe the power is the main point to consider.

So yes, for optimum hunting, and especially if you have challenging soil but even if you don't, spending money on a new unit vs a new coil for the Silver Sabre would make perfect sense.

I'd say just use the SS ll and see for youself how it will do, it's a Tesoro, so it is good in the iron.

I have an internet friend that lives in Aiken SC that has used the SS ll with good results. using the 8" coil.

He says the soil around his area is mild, so if the SS ll has a decent ground balance it should be good to go.

If you just got to have a new machine the Tejon is very hard to beat. It runs much smoother than the F75 around power lines and has a very good following in the relic hunting world.
Of course this is just my opinion but I have hunted with all of the ones you mentioned and the Tejon is the least affected by EMI and is a really deep and sensitve machine.

Tommy you're right about that. The F75/T2 work great when they are not around any EMI, but you might as put them back in car if there's any major EMI present.

On the other hand the Tejon keeps on trucking EMI or not.

I had a T2, and I couldn't lower the sensitivity enough when under power lines. I had to grab another machine for that site.
