Tell me it is ok that I don't go detecting today.

I hate this feeling.
Yesterday I went detecting and I told myself that today I am going to go again. Problem is that I just can not get motivated to go. I got all my gear together and I just can not follow through. Perhaps it is the dark clouds in the distance giving the threat of rain? It is really bringing me down that I just want to relax today and stay in and chill.
Please tell me I am not the only person who has had this happen. I even flipped a coin 4 times. Heads I stay home, tails I go detecting. 4 out of 4 times it came up heads. LOL

HH ( i guess)

There are some days a just have to force myself out detecting. I go almost every day. Its OK not to go when its raining, etc, but on a nice day I just have to do it. I usually lighten up and enjoy once I get out there and get my coil on the ground. If I find something sweet I'll stay for hours. I like to take the dog with me because seeing her sit around inside all day makes me feel guilty. Don't be too tough on yourself. HH. Matt

Since your fate was in the flip of that quarter 4 times...take the "day off" and go to the movies with your girlfriend / wife Heather?

So I went against the coin toss and I decided to go detecting.
Detecting In my backyard that is.
We moved here two years ago ( old property)and I have taken my time in my yard so as to not hunt it all at once and space the hunts out.
I found a large mans ring with a big blue stone in it by the flower beds. I also found a very old shoe buckle in the garden.
Something colonial and something modern. WOW all under 30 minutes. Now I feel better. Plus I will be showered and shaved by the time the Mrs gets home. A good day it ended up being.
I am writing this post quick. So you will have to understand the lack of pictures.

Wish I had the money to hit the movies. I want to see that new Avengers movie. Hear it's good, and much of it was filmed on the streets in Cleveland. Since I live near Cleveland I'd like to see that alone, and am a big fan of super hero movies. New Spiderman coming out this summer. Loved the others, but I think I heard this is a re-boot like they did with the Batman series? That was great for the Batman movies because the first ones were campy, but I really liked the Spiderman movies so I'm not sure I want to see them start over again with some new actor and re-do a different pilot. Anybody know about the details of that movie in those respects?

Oh, sorry...Back to the topic. Yea, I get days where I can't motivate myself to go. Today a friend dragged me out to hunt and I was just in one of those moods where I wasn't really into it. Didn't help that we both got skunked. Not even a wheat penny. We didn't dig many signals, though. We both kept looking for the classic deep coin signal. Those are pretty much gone on public land these days unless your in good soil where the coins can really sink deep and using a larger coil like the 12x10 or that 13 incher to push really deep and look.

You know, I remember when I first started detecting. For the first year or so I was happy to dig ANY signal, regardless of how good it sounded or where it showed up on the conductivity scale. So long as it was above iron I was digging it. I seem to remember making some of my best finds in those days by doing that, and on those rare occasions when I do dig it all above iron I seem to still go home with some real interesting keepers, even if they aren't silver coins. I think I'm going to try going back to that mindset and dig it all. Or at least dig everything that is deep beyond pulltab range, if the site is old enough to have deeper targets than that, regardless of what kind of signal it is. Probably go home with more tokens, gold rings, lower reading indian heads like fatties, along with the odd silver coin or two that just read low for some odd reason.

It makes more sense to fill my time digging targets rather than just wandering around aimlessly for an hour until I find a deep decent enough coin signal to take a chance on. At the very least I need to dig those one way coin signals more, regardless of how bad they sound or null the rest of the way around them. I do do that some throughout a hunt, but even then I'm usually pretty picky about just how good the signal has to be before I decide it's a masked coin...So I need to lower my standards, and I'm sure digging more of those iffy/junky/one way coin signals will soon make me an expert on which ones really are masked coins. I'm fairly good at that right now, but if I dug them all I'm sure I'd get even better at recognizing those traits of the masked ones versus the iron or other trash acting like one.

So there you go...Time to start digging it all I think (at least the deep or badly masked ones) in hard hit spots where I know I can wander for two hours until I find a deep good coin signal that might be silver. Those signals are just gone these days, unless your in a spot where the coins have sunk deeper than other detectors can reach while your Sovereign will still reach them. Need to at least be just happy to be outside enjoying nature and just dig. If the surface is real trashy than everything deeper than what round pull tabs go as they're the oldest of that type, and also the shallower but really masked/bad iffy coin signals more often. Despite my best mindset to do that on any given day, I often skip those still searching for that classic deep silver signal. 5 or 6 years ago those signals were still around fairly easy to find and come home with 3 or 5 silvers found that way. Unfortunatley, many of my sites don't have good soil to sink coins out of range of other non-Minelab detectors. Sure, I still got plenty of known deep coin sites where the soil could let the silvers get well beyond the reach of other detectors, but when I'm hunting the ones that don't allow coins to sink beyond other machine's depths then I need to just dig the junky coin hits, or the "trash" signals that are deeper than the pulltabs.

There is a thread I posted in the main detecting forum asking if anybody digs everything on land BUT coin signals looking for gold rings. Along the same lines of this topic and some good reading with some nice finds from people. It's a new thread so check it out.

Jason, sometimes we need a break.LOL for most there is a different kind of storm brewing.I can't hunt until after this Monday, stitches come out and have use of my hand.HH Ron
