Hello all, im a newbe, just got into the game of metal detecting. Bought a new Whites M6 last week but with the snow and ice here in Missouri havent had the time to use it. Tell me i did good guys and gals!!!!! Any advice on my new machine would be highly appreciated! Also bought the 5.6 Eclipse coil with it. Thank you, thank you and thank you!!!

The best thing you did was buy the small coil. Now put the disc at 9 o'clock and sens at 80 and dig repeatable beeps. This is the best way to start. I like running in the single tone mode.(trigger center) later you can try the 7 tones (trigger forward) Run with the tracking on for about 30 seconds then flip it to lock. Learn to pinpoint good and make small holes. Cover all holes with the grass side up. Ask permission to hunt private property. Buy a nice digging knife (predator or lesche)

Read the manual...get to know your machine...and I believe you bought the 5.3 Eclipse coil...not the 5.6....oh then read the manual again...

I think the M6 is one of the best detectors I've got. My kind of machine - it makes lots of rude noises. Don't try to cover a whole park or beach with the small coil - use it to concentrate on areas around trees, picnic tables or any place you find lots of trash. The big coil is better for large open areas.

Hopefully this work.. I have had 7 different detectors from mid range to the very upper end since last year and I now have two M-6's so you know my opinion of them..

Thanks again khouse and to the rest of you with the great info. I want to hunt mainly parks, old homesteads and lake beach areas. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Hey Cosmic, after looking at the pics you posted i think i will be bothering you alot on here, looks like you know what your doing, great finds! Hope you dont mind me asking every now and then! Thanks

I think you made a great choice with the M6 and as you can see from the other posts it can find some nice stuff. Usually run mine at 0 disc only because i like torture  and use the 7 Tone ID when very trashy, set sensitivity according to conditions and always maintain a stable unit but sometimes you need to be on the edge when targets are deep. In heavy trash use a small coil and practice with sensitivity regarding target separation and masking as you want to be able to use the quick recovery speed to help unmask hidden targets and too much sensitivity can still blind the detector even with a small coil. As someone also mentioned i usually run tracking long enough to establish a good GB then switch to Lock and periodically redo the GB while hunting.Been using the M6 almost 18 months and still enjoying it.HH Bill

put the 5.3 on and don't take it off!..highly versatile coil with excellent depth along with great separation capabilities!
