Tell me about your Sovereign water resisting techniques for water hunting

I say water resistant since one can not truly waterproof a Sovereign GT. Well technically you could as I have seen some YOU TUBE videos, but I don't feel like making a waterproof box.....Just yet.

Anyway I follow the advice in Clive Cylnicks book. I wrap the control box in a bread loaf bag, wrap the ends in rubber bands and then electrical tape it off. I hang that around my neck in the stock GT hipmount bag while it hangs at chest height inside my hip boots. I was just wondering what techniques you all use. Got any pics of your set-up?
Now back to completely waterproofing the GT. Any links for parts I need and the step by step methods for the most easiest and reliable method for doing this? I know there are a few different brands of waterproof box's out there and I saw a video where a guy uses a pair of 45.00 wireless headphones and gets the job done.
Any comments/advice is much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Did you look in the Modifications forum? Right now there are two big threads in there on water proofing the Sovereign various ways, from throwing it into a waterproof box to using a water proof backpack and such. Follow the links in the one thread to many others on the subject, most of which are about the Sovereign but I threw a few other thread links in it to some fantastic water proofing projects using other machines for ideas too. By far it looks like the Sovereign is waterproofed more than any other machine, due to the coil cables being extra long for those who wish to chest mount, and also due to the fantastic reputation these BBS units have for being smooth as silk and punching very deep on coins or rings in the harshest of minerals or salt.

Didn't see that. Thanks for the heads up!

I just plopped mine in a plano box. Easy enough to do. Id say its good down a few feet...more then a dip. I got all info I needed in those threads there critter just mentioned. I can help if you want...buts its more just doing it. There are a few curve balls...but once its done its done. hh an gl -Joe

The main water proofing thread link is in the Sovereign Accessories sticky near the bottom of the second page. Anybody considering waterproofing follow the links from that one and also might be one or two others in that sticky to follow links from too...

Mel, that is one prime piece of major eye bling candy right there. Fantastic custom job. I suspect you are using that puppy at diving depths then with that kind of professional enclosure? Man, looks store bought for sure.

Another cheap way I've been considering for waterpoofing the control box without modifying it would be to stick it in a piece of PVC pip with one of those screw on end caps for it. I'd think it would be more waterproof to deeper depths than a Plano Box for sure, though I only need wading depths protection and even then my Plano box is going to be mounted on a snap on back shaft extension so it's at head height and thus out of the water even when neck deep. That way no worries of drag, float, or leak risks is the way I see it. Mocked this up on the stock shaft, which I only use in the water these days due to my light weight land shaft rig I built, and found the balance is great with it.

Was worried it might wear my wrist out with the shaft trying to lift backwards on me but no such issues. When complete it might try to raise the coil when I take my hand off the grip to scoop with both hands, but if it does two options- Weigh the coil end down with a small bag of sand strapped to the lower shaft, or just put my big toe on the coil while scooping. When I go to scoop in the water I use both hands and the shaft is held to me via the arm strap of the arm cup. Or, a heavier coil than the 10" Tornado such as the WOT or the 15x12 would probably make it a non-issue too.
