Teknetics T2 vs other detectors....

This post is for the guys who may ask themself if the T2 is lightyears ahead of what they own now. If you use the T2 and think it is the best you ever had ...stop reading NOW.

Let me start with the hardware. The T2 is really well made and well balanced. You can even bent the armrest to fit your arm. The grip feels very well in the hand and the 11" DD coil isn't as heavy and large as it looks like on pictures.
It has a display with easy to read numbers and other info.

The 11" DD coil should be the secret to its performance in mineralized soil.

My T2 did nice on airtests but to set sensitivity to about 80 (99 is max.) i had to set the Threshold to minus 7 and GB it a little to the positive side. If you don't do that is is very sensitive to interference and changing ground conditions and you will have problems to set sens. higher than 60.

The depth i got out of it with sens at 80 does not come close to the depth you will get out of a Vaquero with the 12x10 DD coil or the Whites M6 with the 12.5 Exellerator coil on it.I put the DD coils on these detectors because i wanted to compare them with about the same coil size and style (DD) if possible.
Let me say that the other detectors ran much more stable than the T2. So if you put a DD coil on the Vaquero or Whites you have a more powerful detector with the same or better punch in mineralized soil. If you compare target ID to target ID the Whites M6 comes out ahead because it has automatic GB (T2 manual) and 7 tone ID (T2 4 Tones). The Whites runs quieter with higher power settings and cost is just 560 $ with free headphones, bag, pinpointer. OK, you would still have to buy the DD coil.
The T2 will airtest 14 to 15 inches on a nickel in disc mode with the 11" stock coil. Well if you think that is impressive put the 5.75 coil on the Vaquero and do an airtest in disc mode.
The Vaquero will airtest 14 inches on a nickel with the 5.75 coil. In ground performance of the Vaquero (no matter what coil i used on it) or the Whites M6, Troy X5 and Tesoro Tejon was at least 2 inches better than the T2. I think the T2 needs other filtering to handle the interference so you could run it at higher sensitivity setting to make it as deep as the other detectors. What i didn't like either is the fact that the T2 doesn't store the last settings. If you turn it off and on you will have to program it again. Even the 200$ Ace 250 stores the settings if you made changes to the custom mode. And the T2 is a 1000$ detector (streetprice 800$).
The T2 is a step in the right direction for First Texas, but not up there now to other top detectors like Explorer, DFX, X5, M6 and others.

HH,
Andy

Now Bill says he can easily detect a 12" Quarter in his test bed with the T-2. You may be hampered by a different type of soil and/or electrical interference?

Not being able to save the last settings is pretty much a downer for me as a creature of habit.

Thanks for the report!

If you want a few laghs, post your review on the T2 forum. It's gratifying to see that I'm not the only one who has a problem with the lack of a memory on the T2. What do you think of the 12.5" coil on your M6? I have a 14" Xcellerator for the MXT I'm getting and was just wondering. Will be using it for beah hunting and prospecting. ..Willy.

Hey Buddy if the lack of memory is your only dislike on the T2 what`s the problem?

It takes about 10- 15 seconds to put in the settings! Hardly cause for alarm lol.

And Andy, in-air tests mean nothing, l used a Tejon Pro on one of my ancient UK sites and it was totally hopeless, could`nt handle the soil conditions.

Put an 11" coil on a Tejon and you have to run the machine on `0` sens and its still too sparky, whereas, the T2 can handle any conditions over here.

Don`t even talk to me about a Troy X5 lol...all it ever gave me was iron, iron and more iron, typical Fisher built crap.

Recovery speed is the be all and end all with detectors in the UK, for contaminated ancient sites, the T2 and XP range are superior machines, Minelads can`t handle ancient sites without nulling out....little to choose between the T2 and Goldmaxx Power, but for me its the T2.

Poor build quality? Well yes if you`re ham fisted troll who abuses their machines you`re going to struggle, treat it right and she`ll reward you:detecting:

You must not have used the M6 before. Same depth class as the DFX and MXT, just fewer bells and whistles.

Your a bit hard on the Tesoro which is very popular in many areas of the U.K.. Three problems come to mind with the Tejon. A need for good batteries. A little difficult to ground balance compared to the other machines you mention and the sensitivity to different conductors isn't as good as the Troys.

The Troy Shadows gain from Fishers excellent build qualities and come out top of the group in that respect. Again a few problems. In my area they will detect coke/coal with a "good" signal deeper than other machines which is a real pain and there's the problem of setting the discrimination for European conditions as the lower end is so tight. Its a hairsbreath between the position for rejecting small iron and the lose of small hammered.

No arguement over the Minelab nulling problem but it should be said this doesn't apply to the often overlooked single frequency Musketeers and Advantage.

That leaves the XP's (high and low frequency) I use both and the T2. The T2 I now do give the edge to and tend to carry in the car more than the XP's as its more of an all rounder. In fact I am considering parting with my Goldmaxx. Build quality is not up to the same standard as the XP's and Troy's. I had a large concentric coil made for me (10.5") before Teknetics got round to providing any other coils. Unfortunately it didn't take long for worrying creaks to set in with each sweep of the coil. I think there may be much more cases of the handgrip/stem parting from the main shaft as the new S.E.F. coils start to be used. Stick with the stock or small coil and there should be no problems.
