Teknetics Mark I

What is the going price of a good working Teknetics Mark I ? Which is preferable to have, the rod mount or Hip Mount?

Rich (Utah)

rich i have seen mark 1 go for 150 to 275 dollars depending on the condition and if it has any accessories or coils with it. very good machine if you have never used one and they do great in parks and other high traffic areas where old coins and new clad can be found and you cant beat the tone id. if you do get one think about doing a rod conversion as i think it makes the detector more balanced. i did the rod conversion on mine and it feels much better and much more balanced and easier to swing. hope this helps. have a nice day and happy hunting.

Thanks for the reply. I've owned a Teknetics Mark I hip mount since 1985. I originally bought it for my mom who used to bottle collect, but she was intimidated by it and never used it other than the couple lessons I gave her. She gave it back in 1991 or so. I've had it for a backup detector since then. Other than the nicads giving up the ghost and needing to replace the mode change cable, the detector works great and is really good condition. I have the 7 1/4" and a 10" coil for it, hardcase, owners manual and all that.

I had not planned on keeping it and it looks like there is quite a following of Mark I aficionados here. I thought somebody might be able to get more use out of it than me and wanted to have it reasonably priced.

I'll throw it up on the 4-Sale forum when I get home.

Thanks,

Rich (Utah)
