Teknetics Mark I vs. Hawk?

I was curious as I owned a Teknetics Hawk for a short time and didn't think the depth was good at all. I never owned a Mark I ,But heard some say the depth was same except more bells and whistles? I have heard some say the depth on the Mark I is alot more than the Hawk? Have any had both to compare? I was wondering as I am getting the hot's for a Mark I as I always wanted to try one if I can find one at the rite price as some are priced a little high IMHO. Thanks.

The Hawk was a stripped down, lower performance version of the Tek 8000 and was built for and sold by Kellyco.

The Mark 1 was far superior but you needed to know how to use it. The Mark 1 was an ultra slow motion detector that when moved quickly in bad ground had poor depth. In fact, I suspect the Hawk would get more depth if the Mark 1 was swept incorrectly for the ground. Move the Mark 1 slow or raise the coil and things change a lot because the Mark 1 became a depth demon.

I still have my Mark 1 and won't part with it.

I know what you mean about the Mark 1. I've abused it and patched it up several times. I converted to Whites coils for choices . Boy, mine has found me more coins than all the other 10 machines I've owned combined. The adjustability of the Mark ! is a plus. It's just analog instead of digital. I would still be using it if I could,as the bulkiness of the unit on the hipmount sticks out too far and is obstrusive in the weeds. I let friends use it in parks now. My suggestion : If you find one in excellent shape, grab it.

My Mark 1 found me one of my deepest good targets ever...a gold plated flat button the size of a quarter down over a foot in black soil in a forest. The signal was so clear that it might have gotten it even deeper!!
