Teknetics G2 All Metal mode and sounds

sdesic

New member
Hi to All,

I am waiting for my G2 to arrive and wondering if it was right choice.

I know that display in All Metal mode is showing ground phase numbers.
All metal mode has no big ID numbers only on top arch small lines representing numbers.
Do I get two tones as in Disc mode ?
V-break in All metal mode ?

I would like to detect in AM mode because it has more depth...
I am not prospecting.

Reviews are not helping, youtube has only one video in all metal ... in French.

Regards
Sinisa

Read manual from Internet and ... it says
ONLY VCO sound in All Metal mode

Can you differenciate metals with only audio ? No ?
You must look at screens top - arc is showing small lines.

But you get more depth from AM mode than from Disc.
How much more ?
I have results from T2 and it has 6 cm more in AM on 30mm silver coi.

Is this case with G2 ?

You have more depth in AM, but in my oppinion not more than 10 percent. Also the g2 seems
more made for this mode. If the g2 displays id's in AM, the target will recognize also in disc mode.

extremely important is the ground balance, you lose depth and have inaccurate id's if that is badly adjusted.
Sorry for the bad english

Thank you Ezer19

In AM mode G2 doesn't show ID numbers but I will manage.
I might try prospecting ... must look for goldmine or gold bearing river in my country

Today I found small gold ring in dry lake gravel ... 6000 di pro sl still gives :)

Sdesic, the arc scale on the top of the display shows the id number in AM. Not as digit, true.

It is in my opinion too small to look while waving detector + glare from "LCD screen"

The Info is displaying for a while after audible signal, so you can visual check it. AM is not designed for seperating metals, so it is a nice addon for me.

If only Fisher included a toggle to swap ID and ground phase readings in AM! For some uses it is great as is but coin shooting, etc the large reading ID info in AM would be wonderful!

groundphase readings are essential for prospecting (you need a well ground-balanced device for this task), so it makes no sense to display a target id in this mode
g2 manual page 17:
"(ground phase).... this indicates the type of minerals in the soil.
Within an area, the ground phase may change.
After ground balancing, periodically compare GND PHASE to GND BAL. If these two
numbers differ by a great deal, you may want to ground balance the detector again."

sorry for my bad english

I have come to appreciate the ground phase in AM, but I'd still LOVE to be able to flip between and use what I want when I want.

All metal mode is OK when you look for single lonely target.
Not for salt beaches or iron infested place.
Weather gave me few hours to try G2 on my favorite place.

AM ground phase is good for looking for gold so you can see if you are hitting some hot ground where gold could be, at least that's what I would/do use it for. and maybe a dry sand beach, but not a junky park.

Good answer amberjack, i would never use the g2 for junked sites.
dont know if its possible to use AM as pseudo discriminator, by watching the difference between GB value and Groundphase. if the FE Bar has still no value, you maybe have a target outside the iron range.

Sorry for my bad english

Your English is fine Sir.----Interesting post/thread!~

oh my god what a fail...
i mean in AM mode. in disc mode of course i use my g2 in junk infested sites...

In disc mode, G2 may be good for junk sites. I found a NY cuff button in between 2 iron targets that others had missed. It was only about 4 inches deep.

The G2 (I have the GBP - Same) is excellent for junky sites. Especially true in iron laden sites. Just run it in Disc mode. I have pulled coins in same hole with nails. If the iron based objects are above the coin sometimes iffy depending on the size of the iron. It is a superior detector with very fast recovery. I run my disc break at 30 to 40 depending. Will pick up the fine gold chains and small earrings with no problem and at several inches. This is very good considering that most detectors will not even touch the chains including the very expensive Minelabs E series which I sold in favor of the GBP. I mainly hunt for jewelry and did very well in the parks last year with several nice rings. It is also very good on coins in my opinion. ID is very accurate. A solid good target will generally not jump around too much on the ID. This depends on close proximity junk, etc. With the smaller Nell 5" coil I have pulled coins from junky areas that the larger coils would not be able to find. So revisiting these areas with the smaller coil will clean up. I got three quarters once right in with the heavy iron. The fast recovery and narrow field of the 5" coil is the key. The Nell 5" coil will go fairly deep and is better than the stock coil from what I have seen on You Tube testing. Look up video on G2 with gold chains on beach. If prospecting for nuggets maybe different story but I dont live in gold country so cant comment on this.

Just make sure whatever you are doing to properly ground balance or you will be missing some goodies.
