teknetics 8500

can someone please explain the differences between the teknetics 8500, 9000 and the Mark l, also I've heard there was a Mark lll made? what was this? thank you! davidcern

The Teknetics 8500 & 9000 were the same Except the 9000 had a LCD
Target I.D. And Depth Reading meter. There is a Difference However, between the Teknetics 8500-B 9000-B than the regular 8500 & 9000's. The B-Models had Audio Target Identification. You could tell the difference between the Regular 8500-9000 and the B-models buy looking at the control panel. The B- Models with the ATI had a TONE Control. The regular 9000's and 8500's had a VOLUME Control.....The Mark-3 was a scaled down version with a cheaper analog Meter and Not as Many Controls. I beleive the Mark-3 had a preset Ground Balance Control.

Notice the Tone Control on the upper right control of the Condor.
It's the same on the 8500-B and 9000-B

I just bought a Mark l and it is like new with one small smudge on the meter face. Battery clips are like new and it works well as near as a newbie can tell! Thanks for the info duggr

Duggr, just how accurate is that meter on the Condor? I can't help but admire how its set up, I really like the way its laid out with gold and silver targets and only showing the most common trash area.
Mike

It wan't bad at all.But I don't think it would be as accurate as an
Analog meters Point System....It was top of the line back in the eighties though......

David, the Mark I is the best of the 3 detectors mentioned! Although its technology is over 20 years old it is still competitive with many of todays detctors! Also many people prefer these machines especially with the analog meter!..........Joe

The 6500 was a switch on and go attempt with no meter. Worked well though.
The 7500 was similar the the 8500 but with one less knob and the meter only offered depth reading but depth/abilities were similar.

I've owned both the Mark I and the 9000 B, The mark I wasn't as good as the 9000 as far as target ID. My brother was running the Mark I and ID'ed a target as a silver dime, he called me over to ID the target with the 9000. I said if its not a silver quarter it JUNK! it was a silver quarter! You can lay down a silver quarter and a silver dime together and the 9000 will make the change indicating a reading just over a quarter .35 cents. The best of the older Teknetics was the three filter Eagle or the Condor!. The problem with the 9000 and the Condor is the meter's would go bad and all replacements are gone! Before I got rid of my 9000 I found two new NOS replacement displays on ebay and bought them, both were bad as well. The LCD displays were pressed between two pieces of glass and sealed. What I understand happened to them is the seal would leak between the glass and then the LCD liquid would bleed and cause the meter to lose detail. I loved my old 9000, but I couldn't get the meter fixed. Now the 8500 and the eagle had analog meters and so they didn't have the meter failure. I would really like for the Teknetics company to open up the Eagle and take off with it were they left off, I would buy one of them in a heart beat!

I wish I would have kept that Condor that I had in the above post. Those older Teks were ahead of there time...I never could understand why whites electronics
never put A.T.I. on there 6000 Di series....or even there exellent Xl pro

Bought an 8500b on ebay. It had been listed for parts as the seller didnt know how to test it. It works great. Need information though. Need the initial preset settings and information on a charger for it. My next purchase for it is a set of rechargeable batteries. Nickel Hydrite I think. Going out in the morning. Will post finds here and let ya know how it goes for a first outing with it.

Got batteries and headed out to the yard. Was really suprised. Found coins that the newer detectors I had missed or passed as junk. A quarter, 3 dimes and a handfull of pennys. No Silver but still not bad for looking in an area I have been over repeatedly. Dug a few bottle caps till i figured out the width of the responce to steel compared to other metals.

Bottle caps!
They will ring in the coin zone, but a couple of super fast sweeps over it and its GONE! the audio discrimination on those units works better the faster you sweep over the target.
Now, I don't mean to hunt (search) that fast but before you dig a target give it a couple of grass mowing sweeps, if its a good target it will come in better, if its a bad target it will just fall off (disc out)
Air test a bottle cap and a quarter, fast sweep both in front of the coil, the bottle cap will drop out and the quarter will only get better. It works the same in the ground. (Amazing)
