The Eagle is an undated version of the 8500/B (Newer model)
The Condor is an updated version of the 9000/B (Newer model)
The 8500 and the Eagle are analog metered versions of the 9000/Condor
The 8500 and the 9000 were four filter units requiring faster sweep speeds.
The Eagle and the Condor were three filters units, thus they had slower sweep speeds and more depth.
I have owned both the 9000 and the 8500 (I still have an 8500 Hip mount)
First!
The new Teknetics company doesn't have anything to do with the original Teknetics company other than the right to the name, so there is no company support for those old Teknetics. Also there is no current production of parts for them either, bone yards (old broken units) and depleting remaining factory parts is about it.
The units were VERY large and heavy,
Consume a lot of power (14 AA batteries)
They are SOLID units! built to last (the analog meters was more reliable, the LED ones on the 9000 have almost ALL died, and there is no replacements)
The hand held models were not as desirable as the hip mounted version due to the weight (both of the ones I had were hip mounted)
The LED models did seem a tad bit better at ID'ing than the analogs, even though the analogs were (are) pretty darn good.
I watched for a long time for an Eagle but after awhile I struck a deal on my hip mounted 8500 and so I gave up on finding a working Eagle. If I could find a good deal on an Eagle even a hand held one, I could turn my 8500 into parts and convert the Eagle into a hip mounted version.
I would still have my old favorite 9000 but the displayed died on it and I sold it for parts. When I got that detector it was used, but it was still a Teknetics current model. When my 9000 died I tried to find new or used displays for it to try and fix it. At one point I fell into a deal for TWO new factory stolen ones (that was the story anyway) and they did look new, but due to age they were already going bad and the displays were smearing. So, I gave up and sold it, man I really hated to let that go, but I hated as much to keep it and it dieing.
Sometimes I forget get about my old friend, but then a post like this comes along and it gets me to thinking about those old Teknetics units and just how for ahead of their time they really were, I miss my old 9000.
Oh, well enough tears
Pretty nice looking Eagle, is it fully functional?
If so and you would ever consider getting rid of it let know, I know I would like to have one, but for the next year or so my funds are really going to be lean.
Below is some current pictures of my 8500.
As you can see the controls are the same, the 9000 and the Condor's also had the same controls and the same layout.
In their day they were the BEST of the Best!
Thanks for the trip back in time!
