Tek 2 question please help

Burdie

New member
I have a used Tek 2. I made a test garden. I placed the silver ring and quarter in two different plastic cups 6" deep. I placed a 5 cent and penny 6". I can pick up the 5 cent and the penny loud and clear. The other two I can't get a decent sound that I would dig. What is up with this? Can the cups actually make a difference? I need to be able to find silver for sure. Please give me some advice.

That's a pretty broad question. Did you ground balance? What is your sensitivity setting? What is your tone setting? All of this could be a factor. However, I would recommend that you remove the plastic cups. The soil is what you ground balance against and is related to the conductivity around the target. May or may not be a factor.

All metal mode and I have the fast track grounding showing a 90. Sensitivity is 85. The tone is 1 and also had it at 2. I also also changed it to the Discrimination mode and it made no difference. It was set at 21. thanks for replying.

Hi there Burdie.............Before we go any further on trying to help, let's set the scene correctly at your end.

(1) Switch on your T2.

The initial settings at switch on are called the DEFAULT settings.

Step through them WITHOUT ALTERING ANY at this stage, and familiarise yourself with them, just for experience.

Then if you care to, play around and find how to alter or choose each function.

When you actually try your T2 out on the test bed targets, you will need to switch off and back on again to begin in the default mode.

I will advise you later on, regarding what few alterations are recommended to do your tests in a STANDARD manner.

First task:-

Switch on your detector, and make no adjustments.

Air test each target, and record its approximate ID number.

Also note the

Matt you are the man. Thank you so much. I am putting this on hold till Jan. 3rd. Matt I printed your instructions out and will follow them. Please check back later. Again thank you from across the pond.:)

The only thing that I would add is to be sure to ground balance. According to the manual 90 is the default setting and can also mean that the machine did not properly ground balance. Of course it will tell you this on the display. I always recommend that you perform a few ground balancing procedures and get an average ground phase number for typical soil conditions in your area. For instance my area is typically between 48 - 62 (+or- 3). This is only a reference number for when I can't get a good ground balance. I can go into manual ground balance and set it for that number. Remember, the T2 is a single filter machine and DOES NOT TRACK. That's why its important to reground balance periodically. If it performed auto tracking then you wouldn't have to reground balance. Hope this helps.

horsesoldier thanks for the replies. I was using the wrong terminology when I said fast track. I believe it is fast grab. I would pump it a couple times and it goes to 90 most of the time. I have seen it at 45 some times but not often. I was not comfortable about Manual GB yet. But reading up on it. I am on the road with my laptop during the holidays and will not be back till Jan 3rd. Then if the 7" of snow melts when I get back I will go through the steps. If you two great guys can't pull me through this no one can. :stretcher: Be safe and great holidays everyone.
