Tejon ?

WV62

Well-known member
I have been without a Tejon for a couple of years now and I got another one now and I was going through the manual last night and came across the little bit of instructions for the VCO. I can't remember much about using that on my first one.

I will be running disc and looking for coins and inland jewelry. The only use I have for all metal will be for pinpointing targets.

Any Tejon users out there that can better explain the VCO? For my kind of hunting would it be better to leave on or off?

Maybe I missed it in the manual but I didn't see what VCO stands for.

Just trying to get back up to speed on this machine.

Thanks,

Ron in WV

Voltage Controlled Oscillator.
The circuit that puts out the sound in all metal, pinpoint too I believe.
On some detectors this feature can be adjusted to control the frequency pitch, most others it has set parameters.

The vco on the Tejon works very good letting you know a target is shallow. Turn the tone control counter clockwise all the way to get vco. You have to see if you like the tone. You may want to just set the tone you like to here. Tejon is awesome in iron trash. The Tejon is my favorite detector.

So if I setup the Tejon for some air testing, how could I set or test the VCO to get some idea as to what to expect. It kind sounds like I may be able to get some idea as to target depth or target size.

So if that is the case I am thinking I would want to hunt using the VCO. I did check the tone that VCO puts out and it is really close to what I would set if I adjusted it with the VCO off, so I will be in good shape tone wise.

I hunt in some level of disc all the time except for pinpointing.

I just turned on my Tejon and was checking it out. I was wrong vco only works in all metal and pinpoint. The tone in disc is modulated and you can tell a deep target from a shallow target. And you can adjust the tone to what you like to hear. When you put vco on, the tone in disc is a little more base sounding. In vco you can't adjust the tones in disc. In vco pinpoint is easier to tell shallow from deep. If you power balance (ground balance in disc or gb normal and turn gb counter clockwise 1/4 to 1/2 turn) pinpoint doesn't work so well because the gb is neg.

I like that the Tejon is a great relic hunter in that you can dig iron relics with nails just disced out. The iron has a sharper tone where coins have a smooth tone. Also when the edge of the coil is by iron it will not hit and a non-ferrous will. So this detector is very versatile relic hunter. The Tejon does very well if I want to dig iron relics or not and that whats so nice with the Tejon. Not all detectors do well on hitting iron relics. This is best I've used for that so far.

On the Tejon, VCO only works in all metal mode, including the trigger pulled back pinpoint mode from any discrimination setting. In any silent search discrimination mode you get a standard tone when the control is set to VCO. I have had success with my Tejon in very low trash areas like the woods using it in all metal, tone set to VCO, threshold set just to run silent. As the ground balance changes, you get a low tone on the VCO, you can make minor adjustments to GB on the fly. Depth in this setting is exceptional, 12 on a dime, 15 inches on a quarter will run almost half of the VCO tone scale making these deep targets easy to find.

Vco works in disc too.

That tone/pitch adjust on the Tejon is a great feature, you can fine tune it for your hearing.
