tejon with 12"x10" coil

New member
I've got a Tejon with the 12"x10"coil and I have a problem, when I swing it I get a lot of false signals and when I put the coil on the ground (while I'm digging) the Tejon gives a signal like there's the Titanic underneath it. I know how to GB so that's not the problem, who recognise this problem?

I tried the 10x12 on my Cortes. Got a lot of chatter when swinging the coil. In air tests it gave the same depth on a dime and 1" more on a quarter. I sold the coil because of the chatter.

I'd try the coil on another machine if possible. If the problem is there as well, I'd suspect a faulty coil.

I had a coil that when set flat on the ground (full face of coil) it sounded off loud and kept sounding. It was a bad connection on the shield wire. If that is what your coil is doing, call the factory.

With the Tejon, when sensitivity is set high and there are interfering signals in the area, it can chatter with the coil stationary and pointed towards air and not the ground. It quiets when the coil is pointed towards the ground and the detector is reading the ground matrix. This is a chatter of short sharp little beeps, not a loud long tone like you are are six inches away from a steel car body.

yeah, sounds like bad shielding.

That's exactly what happens, I call my dealer here (Netherlands) and tell them about the shield wire and hope they can help me.

I'm just gonna toss this out there, may or may not apply, or even be true. I've read more than once to run the 1st foot or so of cable (off the coil) straight up the stem and tape or zip-tie it to the stem, then wrap is as it's "normally" done. I've always done this, so I don't know if it solves any potential problems or not, but it might be worth a shot.

Have you called the factory when you had this problem? What have they said or done about it? I've already send 2 emails to Tesoro but they don't answer them.

My dealer took care of the bad 12 x 10 coil I had, swapped it for me.

I was not able to get registered with the Tesoro forum. They did not answer e-mails when I was trying. A phone call got through and they indicated they never got the e-mails and that their internet service provider had either firewalls or filters that gave them problems. Never was able to get registered with their forum.

Since you are in the Netherlands, you might want to work through your dealer first.

My Tejon chatters when I lay the machine down to dig a target, I run my sensitivity at the max in the boost mode. I have learned to ignore this chirping, as I want to get the maxi um depth out of my detector. When the coil is in motion, I don't hear any chirping, only good signals or an occasional pop from rejected signals.
