Tejon vs Fisher 1270

Anybody had occasion to try these two detectors.

I've seen all the views about the Tejon and it's famed depth, but I can't help but have more faith in the 1270 for depth.

Also, even though it is a 8.2kHz machine, the 1270 seems to have as much sensitivity in air testing as the Tejon, on a range of different targets.

Both are deep detectors. I still feel the Tejon is deeper and better on gold. Actually the Tejon will give my MXT a run for it's money on depth and the same goes for the Minelab Explorer I & II. Tesoro (HOT) technology is brilliant. Just my opinion. HH

The Tejon is a deep machine but very chattery. In my experience the 1270 is quite a bit deeper. I'm not downing Tesoro at all they are my favorite detectors and they are hotter on gold but for depth here in North Carolina the 1270 was the best choice. Fishers may love iron but after you learn what it sounds like you'll have no problem distinguishing it.

I didn't see much difference in depth between the 1270 and the Tejon or Vaquero. The 1270 may have a slight advantage, but not much in my opinion. What bothered me about the 1270 was the poor balance of the detector. The 1266 was slightly heavier, but balanced perfectly. The 1270 feels much heavier with the stock coil, and if you put on the big coil, it'll tear your arm off. And I use a Nautilus IIb with no complaints.

The Tejon has manual ground balance that works in both all metal & disc. modes..The 1270 has preset GB in the disc. mode, only the all metal mode has manual GB.. If you have ground that matches up good with the preset Gb then you're okay. Either one would find the deep relics.. But if you have a lot of mineralization then you might have problems with the disc. mode of the 1270..In my area the mineralization is bad enough in most places that most detectors won't work in disc. mode anyway.. For me the 1270 did a much better job in the all metal mode than the Tejon. I even figured out a system of checking between he two disc. circuits & the all metal signal to let me know if I was hitting on iron or a deeep good target with the 1270..Both are deep detectors and make good relic hunters, but I've actually went with another brand for my pure relic hunting and I no longer use the 1270 or Tejon....Dave
