Tejon vs Fisher 1266

Are these basically the same machines?
Do they operate on the same frequency?
I used to own a 1266 and absolutely loved it.
Considering the Tejon.
Thanks in advance guys!

I owned a 1266 prior to buying a Cibola, and found the Cibola's performance was better than the 1266. I did far better in finds with it than the 1266. More depth and better discrimination.

My guess is that the Tejon is equal to or better in performance than the Cibola. I have not compared the two side by side. Tejon's setup is very much like the 1266.

I'm not sure but I do know that finding a good used 1266 for sale is like digging a gold coin.

I'd guess the Fisher 1270X-8 would be about the closest. Anyway, that's the next machine in my sights.

Well you know what the 1266 is like. Comparing the 2 I would say the Tejon will handle iron trash better. It is probable not quite as deep. It runs at a higher frequency. Single tone but I can tell the sound of a bullet before I dig it. Controls are the same except Tejon has manual GB and adjustable tone. I like it and you probably will to.

Hi, :wiggle:The only real obvious thing these two machines have in common is they both have dual discriminators....The Fisher 1266 runs at a frequency of 4.8khz and the Tesoro Tejon runs at a frequency of 17.2khz-17.6khz..The Fisher 1266 like most of the 1200 series was prone to one major problem they would start picking up trash items they were set to discriminate out after the item was so many inches deep (pulltabs etc.). Fisher did not take care of this problem so I tackled the problem head on and corrected it along with the excessive chatter. I also had this problem on my 1270 which I now have it corrected and it runs as quiet as a church mouse and discriminates correctly. The (factory issued)1270 does run quieter than the 1266 (factory issued) but the (factory issued) Tejon runs quieter than both of the Fishers..I can only comment on how these machines worked for me in my area....The Tejon was without it's problems too. It had a slight delay when changing between the two discrimination modes which I had to correct also the pinpoint mode was insufficient.. The (factory issued) 1266 pinpoints great (non motion pinpoint) the the (factory issued) Tejon does not (motion pinpoint)..The Tejon does not air test as deep as the Fisher 1266 or go as deep in the ground as the 1266 (in my area)..The Tejon will pull targets the 1266 can't and the 1266 will pull targets the Tejon can't pull.. The Tejon has a normal user accessible ground balance the 1266 does not...Overall the Tejon does have more features than the 1266 and there is other differences between the two.. But if I had to make a choice between the two I would pick and use them both because they are both great machines. Neither machine totally trumps the other one it just all depends on the area you are hunting and what you are pursuing........ Hope this helps.........JJ

since i have never used the tejon i can't comment on it, but i have owned 1260, 1265, and 1266 fisher detectors and in my soil they are elbow deep on alot of targets quarter sized
and larger. i have dug silver dimes at close to 10 inches with a strong signal with the 1266 in an old picnic grounds. i'd guess both machine have their pros and cons, but fisher made one of the best they ever made in the 1266 in my opinion and will still hunt with the best detectors out there today. the tejon is lighter weight, but the fisher is balanced so well you don't feel the extra weight. either machine is going to be an a$$ kickin' detector, with close to the same depth in most sites. it's getting harder to find a nice 1266 these days but they do show up time to time. the tesoro has the lifetime warranty should it ever need repairs. you will be happy with either machine i think. good luck and happy hunting.

So who would be more productive in your opinion? A Radio Shack detector in the hands of seasoned detectorist or a 1266 or Tejon in the hands of a rookie. I know the answer to that and you probably do also.

While skill speaks volumes for sucessful MD'ing, it can only carry you so far. If that were not true, then seasoned detectorists would not be buying more expensive machines.

Skill is a major factor when comparing apples with apples.

But if my hunting buddy has had 50 years experience with a dowsing rod and I just bought a new Tejon; I'd bet on me.
