Tejon: USA vs UK version

akille68

Member
Some times ago I saw some tests that gave a strong advantage to the USA version (grey one) against the UK version (black).
Is it true?
All the best,

We have two Tejon's over here the USA one and the Tejon pro, the Tejon pro is a USA Tejon that has had a UK mod done on it for our soil. Both detectors will go to the same depth, i hope that this helps.
Les in the UK

Les in the UK
Les, you left me a bit confused.

Your heading says the UK version of the Tej

Hello Guys thank You for reply,
For Monte, I think that in UK they modify the tejon puttin in a fixed GB.
They call it " PRO UPGRADE"...

Some more informations at the link below, where You'll note that all the black Tejon have a wider discrimination range:

...and this is the link with deep tests:

All the best,

Tesoro has several machines modified for the European market

For the German market there are:

vaquaro 2 Germania, is a vaquaro with the possibility to put ground balance in a preset position (so called fixed position). I don't see the use of that (buy a cibola when manual ground balance is to much of a bother). And It is supposed to be more sensitive to small stuff (????? as if Americans don't like small stuff).

Cibola SE, is a cibola that does not automatically rejects small iron (europeans want to find medieval arrowheads for instance). Note the discrepancy here, cibola is modified to find small iron whereas euro sabre was build to reject iron in all metal mode. Both machines are for the European market though.

Cibola SE has a target signal with a higher pitch and has an all metal search mode.

Cibola SE is thus a vaquaro 2 Germania without manual ground balance and with lower end iron discrimination.

Here you find how to ad manual ground balance to a cibola se and turn it into a vaquaro 2 Germania

http://www.detektoreninfo.de/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4693

As I understood, these modifications to cibola en vaquaro were made on request of the German users

Now a lot off European dealers claim that the modified tesoros like tejon UK, cibola SE Vaquaro 2 Germanina are modified for european soil conditions. I think this is nonsense. European soil conditions very greatly from place to place. In fact, large part of the USA has the same climatic conditions as tempered Europe and therefore the same sort of soil formation. For instance, you will find the loess of the midwest USA (dustbowl of 1920's) also in a large band ranging from southern England over northern France and southern Germany into Poland.

Sorry for my bad English

Very informative Marc2007. I would make one correction however. The Euro Sabre does not reject iron in the all metal mode. The Euro Sabre only rejects iron in the discrimination mode and only if the "Iron ID" feature is set to "blank" and/or the discriminator is set below iron.

That's the way mine operates.

HH,

I should have put only joking on the end of my post, sorry about that.
The Tejon pro has a fixed ground balance and a manual ground balance on it and it has had a wider disrimination range than the USA Tejon so as to not pick up coke and small bits of scrap iron and still pick up small silver hammered coins.

it is reading all sorts of posts from time to time that say Troy Custom Shadow X-5 was patterned after Tesoro.

Heck, it sounds like the UK Tej

I heard the Cortes was a shadow with a meter ????? hmmmmmm

Gosh that sounds like me!

I had read something on Tesoro site and/or troy website and certainly wasn't trying to pull a fast one.
I was only curious. There's been a lot of badge'ing done over the years...

There's actually quite a bit I don't know, so I'm never afraid to ask questions.

Shoot, it wouldn't matter if Tesoro did it or it was a "PROfessional" after-market modification. It's about useless so far as I'm concerned, and I don't care for it on the Troy Shadow X-5, either.

I can only speak of the X5 I have but it handles the bad ground in Virginia as well as as moderate ground elsewhere very well in the Fixed position. I do use manual as a rule unless I am hunting in an area where on start up the Fixed GB is slightly positive. In this case I will check the GB as I move from one area to another. One thing I have noticed with the Fixed GB is when a little more than slightly positive there it is only a bit less depth. One of the reasons for the Fixed GB on the X5 was for salt water beaches while using the Beach mode. Another reason for both modes is the ability for someone to use the detector that has no knowledge of the operation of ground balancing in the case of a child or adult who only wants to try their hand at metal detecting. So I suspect across the pond the alteration of the Cibola may be a preference that they enjoy and find reason for.

HI Guys, when I asked on a french forum what was the difference between USA Tesoros and "pro" Tesoros (all tesoro sold in France are called "pro"), I had those responses:
- the warranty is not the same, lifetime in USA, two years in Europe (!)
- some of the electronic components could not be the same, as European Union forbid the use of some toxic metal.
- the info on detector (language, bargraph on Deleon Cortes), are adapted to each country.
But the performance should be the same between Europeean and USA version (I have an american Deleon, sounds to be the same as the "pro" Deleon sold in France).

I have had a couple of detectors with manual ground balance (the Bandido and the Tejon pro) both good detectors that have made me some nice finds but not the sort of detectors that i need on the sites that i search, the Bandido was for me a bit like a silver sabre with a little more depth and the ability to change different sized search heads and the Tejon was what i would call too sensitive a detector for my needs (by the time that i turned the discrimination up and the sensitivity down to knock out the iron and the chatter- false signalsfrom all the trash on the real deep stuff) i found that a more basic detector best suited my needs.
