Tejon to hunt relics in bad VA soil??

Canewrap

New member
Does anyone here use a Tejon in VA to hunt relics or parks? I saw where a bunch of guys on another forum said they traded in their Tesoro for a Whites to hunt the bad dirt in VA. Was wondering if anyone uses a Tejon to hunt bad ground?

That's good to know, as I have both as well and I'm going to be up in East Tennessee in a few weeks. Have you ever checked the ground with your MXT, to see just how mineralized it was? Are you getting readings in the 50's or lower?

canewrap, the 5900 and 6000 have long been the machine for the hot soil of culpeper co and orange co in virginia, but i have used the bandito and eldorado with sucess in those areas. i never tried the tejon there, but i'm pretty sure it would work with no problem. tejon is for sure one hot machine.

I really appreciate the info. I do have an MXT, but I just picked up a Tejon as a backup machine (although looks like I might have been premature on asking this question as I'm going to have to send the machine to Tesoro to have it fixed because the guy that sold it to me overrepresented the conditon it was in and the thing is pretty beat up). Fortunately, I do have another Tesoro I can take as a backup and it gets really good depth in all metal. The whole experience with buying a machine from a forum though has soured me on buying used anymore. I have always sold well taken care of equipment, whether it be cameras, fly rods, or whatever. I haven't ever sold my castoffs to anyone. Funny thing is I've never been burned on ebay, just by buying stuff from people I thought I could trust, silly me.

In the past using the mxt I have had reading less than 50. I believe that I obtain a little more depth with the tejon and difference in weight is a big plus when you been swinging for 8-10 hours.

If you do send the Tejon in - I would include a note attached stating you plan on using it with the soil condition in your area.
See if they have any response to that.

I'll agree with the take on White's. Got an MXT coming to me in Central Va. Been without a Whites for too long, now.....
