Tejon testing my coils

WV62

Well-known member
I just got the 10" elliptical WS coin yesterday and thought I would share the test results, I am always looking for the best coil for my kind of hunting and I think I just landed it. The 5x10 either beat or tied with the other coils I tested.

Hope some of you find this information useful.

I find it very useful, thanks for sharing. There is alot of great info on findmall, IMO I think it would be easier to find that great info, if there was sub forums for each Tesoro detector. The search feature works, but sub forums would be organized better IMO.

So now that I will be hunting with a widescan, are there any draw backs over the concentric? The 5.75 widescan that I tested is not mine it is my brothers and I have never hunted with a widescan coil.

Widescans pinpoint a bit differently and according to "accepted opinion" don't disriminate as well as concentric and may not be as deep in milder ground, but a bit deeper in mineralized ground. I use the 6X10 widescan on my MXT and it generally handles trash better than the 950 concentric. They both find targets if you swing over them and personally I haven't felt a need to substiture widescans coils over my concentrics.

Digging Gear has some good videos using the Tejon and a Widescan Coil.

Agree, my brother and I were also surprised at the results. If you noticed the biggest differences were in the gold area and the coins were all the same except for the little concentric and it only was down by a 1/2".

She really starts to purr when you put that gold in front of it.

The Tejon is small but it is for sure one of the big dogs.

when I had an mxt that was my favorite coil on it:thumbup:

I've been thinking of adding the 10" widescan elliptical to my Vaq. After seeing your test, I'll have one by spring. The detecting pattern on widescan coils slips through trash areas better than concentrics size for size. Also, I seem to be a minority when it comes to accepting air testing and I'll admit it's not the same as real world "in the ground" testing. However, your chart is a great scource to compare to when a detector coil combo seems to have lost performance and is useful when comparing to other detectors and coils when air tested.

You will LOVE the 6x10!! I use it on my Vaquero exclusively. It eats through the tough soil and doesn't lose depth in mild ground. I had the Vaq & 6x10 back at an iron INFESTED cellar hole today and this is what she picked out. The super small token with William Penn on it was almost 7" down. That little thing is smaller than a 1/2 Reale. The grounds are covered with a ton of dead foliage as well. I super tuned this puppy and she found the goods.
