Tejon Shorting Out

Rod(medhat)

New member
Hey all, had my Tejon out for the first time of the year, I took it to the UK this year, but as a backup as was learning/trying the F-75. I love my Tejon and have used it hard the last couple years.
It recently came back from the factory as needed to be recalibrated, trigger switch didn;t work anymore, battery doors were broken, arm cuff had cracked and I had fixed it with 4 inch PVC bolted on as an insert. I know you're thinking I must be awful rough on my 'tector, but the truth is I don't baby them, but don't abuse them either, when I hunt I hunt long and hard. The previous mentioned problems were for the most part superficial and I could n't afford to be without my favorite machine for button finding!! Anyways ,took it out for the first time yesterday and as I swing it occasionally it shorts out and gives me the startup , beep, beep, beep, beep, then runs fine for a short while and then again and again. Is this a loose wire? Battery Post, I hate to have to send it in again as haven't even used it since I got it back, and this was not an issue before I sent it...wierd!!
Wondering if this has happened to anyone....

No, I haven't had that problem.. Before you send it back talk to one of the techs. or Rusty, or even one of the Giffords at Tesoro. Get past the woman who answers the phone. Explain exactly what is happening and ask if you can sent it to their personal attention. Ask them for a quick turn around. You will have to pay the postage to them but that is OK this is a lifetime warranty.

Hi there i don't have the Tejon, i have the Vaq, sounds to me one of the battery posts the Battery makes contact with is not making firm contact, as i said i have the Vaq. with the Vaq you can ever so slightly pull the Battery Posts out a notch, or you could have a bit of dirt on one of the posts, first off just clean the posts, a small chance might be a faulty battery, dry joint on the Battery Terminal, sounds to me its movement i would pick the Battery post.

Let us know how you go

Hi yes it has happened to me only a different detector.. I would be using it then it would act like I turned it on and off all of a sudden!
I realized I had been crunching my lead wires for several years evidently. Rusty sent a message back with it explaining what happened so anyhow sounds like wiring could also be prong that connects to battery pack. one of mine was out of round, and not connecting properly.
