Tejon question

I think a Tejon is the next machine on my wish list. I have a Vaquero and a Cibola .Is it worth getting a Tejon? I have heard great things as far as depth on the Tejon but I have also been told to just stay with the Vaquero due to stabilty. I am a relic hunter at heart but in this part of the country(North Dakota ) there are no battle sites that I know of for over 100 miles and that one was just an Indian skirmish on protected land. I think if the Tejon would just find a coin at an inch over the Vaquero it may be worth it. The Vaquero does well and has been my favorite machine to date. Anybody have both machines that may be able to help? Thanks much.

I think I am just like every other detectist out there ,always want new toys. ;)

i dont have a vaquero, but i do have a tejon. they are very stable, they are also very sensitive. the dual disc. feature i really dont know how i did without it. remember this all great detectors that are sensitive to small objects and that will detect a nickel at about 11" which mine does, will need a little learning curve. all the neg. reports that i have seen on the tejon, are due to about two things that i can see. one is really high mineralization inwhich that will miss with any detector, or they do not know what they are doing. the other thing being also they have an agenda. not to mention the tejon has excellent target separation, and quick recovery. i also have a cortes which i like allot but i like the tejon better. i also have many other detector brands and i like the tejon better. that detector fits me. you wont really know untill you get one, and take the time to learn it. i guess that is the thing i see the most on these forums. people always buying the next great thing, but they never do fully learn the detector that they have. plus people that have bought one some have only owned a TID detector, and the beep kind takes another skill. see if you can find somebody that has one and use it first. thats my two cents good luck

Funny - I have a Tejon and I've been wondering what I'm missing with the Vaquero . . . That's just how it goes, I guess. The Tejon is just flat out awesome, in my opinion and you should get it for the extra features, alone - the dual discrimination and trigger pinpoint are must haves. I believe that the Tejon gets better depth from what I've read, but it is open to argument for sure.

Yes for the Tejon
If you have any Tejon questions, just pm Scully. He has one the first two ever made.

The Tejon is one of my favorite relic machines. I have both 5.75 coils (concentric & DD) which I use in trashy situations, and those smaller coils get impressive depths. I don't have the Vaquero but I do have the Cibola and when it comes to relics, I really haven't tried the Cibola. I use the Cibola for some local hunts on coin.
I have used the Tejon a few times for local coin hunts. It seems to be a little more chatty than the Cibola, and I like it that way.
From my Tesoro's, the Tejon is my first grab for relic. For local coin hunts, I'll use the Tejon, Cortes, Cibola or Silver uMax and just go out and have some fun.

I have a Vaquero and a Tejon. The tejon is a hotter machine . Makes more noise. It's hotter on brass, lead. gold, and small items. It's about the same on silver if the Vaquero if it is supertuned. It's got more under the hood! But with it comes a little more noise. I like it better and I believe it has more depth. I like the features better. One thing you will notice is the disc. will go lower. foil setting on the tejon is about the iron setting on the vaquero. Which makes it less noisy. I'm planning on selling the Vaquero and keeping the Tejon. Nothing wrong with the Vaquero but I prefer the Tejon. Maybe because I used to run a Fisher 1265 that also has the dual disc. Just my opinion.

I HAVE A TEJON. AND THERE NOT A EASY OR BETTER MACHINE. MY FIRST RELIC HUNT WAS EAGLE I BUTTON AND A NEW YORK STAFF OFFICERS CUFF BUTTON. THE CAMP THAT I HUNTED HAD BEEN HUNT FOR 30 YEARS. EVERY METAL DETECTOR IN THE WORLD HAS BEEN ON THIS CAMP. NUATULIS, GARRETT, MINELAB, BOUNTY HUNTER, TROY, FISHER, AND THEY ALL MISSED THESE ITEMS. THERE IS NOT A EASIER MACHINE TO HUNT WITH. TURN IT ON, TURN IT UP, TURN ME LOOSE.

My thoughts exactly.

The Tejon sounds like a winner for sure! A couple of momnths ago I saw some where where someone wanted to trade a tejon for a vaquero and I almost went for it but its one of those things .Like buying a car before you drive it I guess. I am gonna be watching for a used one after the holidays once I pay santa off.LOL Thanks for all the great input. Hope all keep warm and HH/Merry Christmas.
