Tejon question

I have had a Tejon for about a month and for the most part like it very much. I have found that when I swing over a large target (i.e. aluminum can, big iron) that it will give off a loud tone followed by a series of repeated chirping.
I asked this same question on another forum and I was told that it was perfectly normal and the machine was re-tuning itself. Is this normal?
I figured that I would ask here because I know that Monte will give facts not fiction. I have read your posts in detail and although I don't understand everything, it is quite evident that you know what your talking about.
I also find it "concerning" that the "other forum" will not recoginze your password.
Thanks

Well, I ran home to rest and not deal with the cold, wet woods. Heading out for more deer hunting in a few hours, but thought I'd 'warm up' in front of the computer for a while. besides, I need to look over some maps as I might have come across an old site in the woods that's detectable! <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">
Okay, about your Tejón question:
<STRONG>"I have found that when I swing over a large target (i.e. aluminum can, big iron) that it will give off a loud tone followed by a series of repeated chirping."</STRONG>... The Tejón, and a few other models, do provide an "overload" or large target alert response. This is what you can get on a shallower, larger-than-coin target.
<STRONG>"I asked this same question on another forum and I was told that it was perfectly normal and the machine was re-tuning itself. Is this normal?"</STRONG>.... It is normal for the Tejón, yes, to give you a noticably loud or growly response. It is especially noticable on objects such as larger soda/beer cand, or larger iron junk. Depending upon the sweep speed used, the coil used, and the target size, shape and make-up, you could call the follow-up "chirping" a retuning effort on the detector's part.
When you question this sort of response simply raise the coil about 3"-8" and re-sweep the target. This will eliminate the overload audio response.

PS: Thanks for the kind comments. I, too, am not sure why my password doesn't work, and even more frustrating is that I STILL haven't had an E-mail back from Tesoro to explain why I can't access their "Official Forum."
