Tejon Quality control and the old X5 question

Ya I have read the Hype on the other forums and I would like to "believe" in the Tejon's capabilities. I sold my XLT awhile back in hopes of getting either the Tejon or the X5.
I am currently using my wife's Banditto umax (seems I prefered it even when I had the XLT <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)"> "
Anyways, I am concerned about buying used with the Quality control issue. I am assuming that the new Tejon machines have the "bugs" out of them and are more consistent.
Since I do not have a dealer near by my questions I guess are:
1.Do you have a better chance of gettting a decent Tejon by buying new today?
2. The x5 vs Tejon question that has been asked a million times.

I happen to favor the X5. Very consistent quality.
Regarding the Tejon, there have been some reports of different depths obtained by different units on a side by side comparison. What I would do is to test it at a dealer to make sure you're happy with it.
Good luck!!!

The X5 has a higher more consitant quality... it should it cost almost double the cost of the Tejon.
I own a Tejon and it is my second one. My current Tejon did not work as well as my first... it just wasn't as stable or seem to go as deep. I sent it in for a retune (NO CHARGE) and now it works AWESOME.
If price was no object... I would prolly choose the X5... But... for the Price difference and the outstanding war service of Tesoro... I choose and will continue to choose the Tejon.
Hope my worthless opinions helps.

Tejon:
- 559 $ new or about 425 $ used
- It is not that well made, i don't like the battery doors and it's not weatherproof.
- in disc mode it dosn't have the depth of an X5.
X5 : 935 $ new or about 625 $ used.
- better depth in disc mode
- weatherproof
- better build
If money is no problem go for the X5.
If you want to spend 425 $..the Tejon is hard to beat for that price used.

side by side and you will see the dozen or more added features on the X5. That and the fact that the quality of construction and electronic components are far ahead of the Tejon will demonstrate why the X5 costs more. Performance consistency is the same from X5 to X5 but that does not seem to be so with the Tejon. One might be a good performer and the next one might be a dog and the only way you will know is if you compare it to other Tejons. The X5 has a great lifetime warranty although I know dozens of folks who own them and none has ever had to send their's in for warranty work.
