hi all i live in the u k iv got a tejon pro i seem to dig a lot rusty iron i have my disc 1 on iron disc 2 on foil but still digging lumps crap rusty iron can any one till me wot I'm doing wrong or till me a good settings to use thanks

Can you upload a picture of the control head of the Tejon pro? I've not seen this one.... Or is it the equal to the Tejon we have here in the states?
Thanks,
Jay

You have discrimination set to low, if you set it half way between Iron and Foil you should not loose anything valuable. I will also recommend to ground balance your Tejon properly and use a good quality headphones eg. Killer B, as a large pieces of iron give a distinctive different sound.

you see my tejon pro iv got fixed ground balance so its turn on and go

Your Tejon is a manual ground balance detector .... meaning you need to check it and set the Balance to the ground your hunting. All Tesoro Tejons are manual ground balance. The knob on the lower left is the adjustment knob.Go over your manual or get it from the Tesoro website if you need to read up on balancing it. If you don't you could be missing good targets.

After getting the ground balance set up (as Jay says, in your picture, it is the knob at the lower left that says ground adjust) iron that does not discriminate out will have a different sound than most of your desirable non-iron targets. Sometimes it take a while to train the ear, but there is a difference. The iron will have a sharper edge on the beep; like a click or sharp rise on the edge and not a smooth edge. On large iron there can also be a booming or echo in the tone.

Try some known small, medium and large iron targets laying out on the ground and some good, desirable targets. See how the different targets respond and the subtle differences in the sound. Then go hunting and work on training your ear to the detector's language. The more time you spend learning your detector, the better you will get.

That's the same Tejon we use here in the States. You Have to Ground Balance before detecting.

Yeah, it sounds like you have not trained yourself to the different sounds.

Do this, in discriminate mode, place it to discriminate against iron. Then, bring the coil over a coin. After wards, bring the coil over nails. Notice how the sound is broken when you bring the coil over nails. That's the sound you're trying to hear when you're out hunting. If you hear that broken sound, you know not to dig.

Every once in a while you will come across large iron targets that sound like good targets. In the places that I hunted, these targets were deep. Still, if they were sharp targets with much chatter, you know to avoid them since over the the many years, corrosion has eaten them away and the Tejon interprets its sharp edges.

Congratulations on your new Tejon. I hope it gets you lots of booty.

thanks for all your help but look out this this is wi thay cool it the tejon pro

There is not much difference between British and American Tejon except the obvious colour, expansion in the iron range, fixed GB and larger coil. I still prefer an American Tejon. At the moment I also owe a French version, different colour, very good looking, but the same as an American Tejon.

I think I would still recommend learning to use the ground balance and move towards being the experienced user. While the fixed setting may do well in many places, best performance is gotten with a properly set ground balance.

can you tell me how to ground balance it or the best way to do it thanks.

Find a "clean" spot of ground with no signals (scan in the all metal pin point mode). Next, hold your coil in the air, pull the trigger to place the machine into the all metal pin point mode (this has a fast retune speed), and while still holding the trigger adjust the Threshold so you can hear a slight audio signal. It may be a bit choppy or broken, but thats OK. After doing this, lower your coil to the ground (in the clean spot) and listen to what the audio does. It will either decrease (go quiet), stay the same, or have an increase in volumn. To Ground Balance your Tejon, you will want to have a slight increase in volume as you lower the coil to the ground. This will be balancing your machine "slighty positive", which is the best way to tune the Tejon. The way you adjust this is with the Ground Adjust knob. Think of this knob as "volume" knob, in other words, if your machine goes silent when lowering the coil to the ground, turn the Ground Adjust knob "up" or clockwise; if it gets louder as you lower the coil then turn the knob "down", or counter clockwise. Keep bobbing the coil while you adjust this setting and listen to the results, gradually working your way to an ever-so-slight increase in audio as the coil approaches the ground.

Once you have it GB'd, make a mental note of where the "pointer" is on the GB knob. It is easy to bump this knob while hunting. The key to great depth on the Tejon is to be sure you are always ground balanced properly so keep an eye on the knob and if it has been moved, redo your GB opperation. With practice, you can do this easily in just a few seconds.

One other thing you need to hear the subtle audio characterstics of iron targets is good high-end headphones. The Tejon has a language but without good headphones you will not hear it. Iron targets have a real "snap" to them, a sharpmess of audio, whereas good targets have a much smoother "beep" pattern. Some big iron will fool me once in a while, but you should be able to get to the point where you can "call" an iron target before you dig it. When you have achieved that status, you can then stop digging those targets based on the signal alone.
