TEJON POWER!!

basstrackerman

Well-known member
just got a tejon and while the yard was thawing i thought i would try it out. was very quiet, not what i have heard about it.also very stable. ground ballance was very easy, adjusting sensitivity was easy, up til unstable then down until smooths out, at 10 it was smooth. i used grey ghost headphones and went at it. found a deep quarter, 9 in. deep and a uncle henry pocket knife about 10 in deep and 2 round pop tabs about 5 in deep each. now this was in my yard that ive been over a couple hundred times with all my machines. i only hunted about 30 min cause ground was still frozed some. i loved the way it feels, well ballanced, it was deep and i will know more on that as the weather warms up, but i was most impressed about how it discriminated. i have the silver umax, and a compadre and had a vaquero and they all do fine, but when i air tested the silver, the compadre and the T not only did it get about 6-7 inches deeper than the compadre and 3-4 inches deeper than the silver but was ALOT better at disc. i taped an old square nail to several coins, silver dime, buffalo nickel, and quarter and then cancelled out the nail by itself and the tejon acted as if there was no nail taped on the coins. my other 2 machines would cherp some and the compadre did a little better than the silver but the tejon was smooth and give a great dig signal. also noticed the t would still be as deep as if coin was by itself, and the other 2 would pick up coin but lose alot in depth. now i would assume its because the t has a true 180 disc and the silver has 120 disc while the compadre has like a 150-160 disc.???? no matter, i really like this machine and will say its got options that i like alot. better than the vaquero i had.i am going into early retirement from the department of corrections so at age 41 will need lots to do aside from fishing and deer hunting. im also a foster parent and have 3 little foster kids running around the house so i should be fine. now everyone go buy a tejon and have some fun. lol

I too am a proud owner of a Tejon........

Stick a few more nails over the coin to cover it up more - then see what it does. Keep adding nails covering the coin till the Tejon doesn't see the coin any more. How much of the coin needs to be seen by the Tejon to still get a signal :look:

Hay Basstrackerman,

You may have a problem with your Compadre.

My Silver gets very good depth, but it only gets about an inch more depth than my Compadre. Not three inches as your's seems to do.

My Compadre has a true ED-180 discreminator.

Here's a quote by Monte.

In those very challenging conditions I prefer to hunt with any make or model that provides ALL metal detection in the Disc. mode in bad ground, and that means a true, ED-180 Disc. range. The Tesoro Lobo and Lobo SuperTRAQ, Tej

hey tabdog you are right, the compadre has 180 disc, i was thinking it was labled that but was actually a little less. i know the vaquero was said to have 180 disc but it didnt do as well as the tejon in the same test. i did not measure the air tests by the way, was visual. i did measure the depth out side when i dug the targets. my compadre has the 5.75 coil and was using the brown 8 in on the silver. im sure you are right, most likely closer to a couple inches rather than 3-4. i just wanted to point out that all but the tejon did lose some depth with nail taped to coin. i did double check the compadre and silver and the compadre did give a better signal than the silver. silver did pick up the coin, but chirped and in the ground maybe not a clear enough signal. im still learning myself and am very excited about getting out there when weather gets better.

You are right Basstrackerman,

Mathmaticly, we are only talking an inch difference. That can be influenced by coil size and what one may be paying more attention to while performing a test. It was just a comparison.

It cought my attention because I have been working along a steel reinforced concrete pool deck. The Compadre is the first MD I've had that will ignore the steel rebars and find a small piece of aluminum or gold right up against the concrete. I have tried it, on that same deck with all the MD's I've had except my old Technatics 24 years ago. A lot of people with a lot of high end MDs have tried it also. I'm the first to succede. It is one of the few places where the high conductive content has not been some what depleated. It feels good to have a productive and unhunted area to my self.

It's like they are talking about on that other thread. I can do well with the Compadre because I like to use it.

I do well with the Silver Sabre uMax for the same reason.

I may tend to over defend the little buber, but he's like family:cheekkiss:

The Tejon is on my wish list. I am sold on it. I need to give a go.:detecting:
