Tejon or Quattro

Is the tejon as good in trash as the Vaquero? Lately I've dug been digging coins in a place where someone used to burn garbage. It's littered with rusty tin cans. How much deeper is the Tejon? More depth would be nice but I dont want to have to give up my trash pile.

I've been told that a 5.75 head is better on the tejon in trash and that you can get 2 or 3 more inches with it.

What some say that the Tejon is always deeper than the Vaquero is plain BS.
Here's why:

The Vaquero has the gain lower that the Tejon but does that mean is doesn't detect as deep ? No..because the depth of a detector is achieved by the gain and sensitivity setting. In some ground the gain on the Tejon is just to high and you have to set sensitivity very low to be able to detect and not to overload the Tejon.

The Vaqueros gain is lower but therefor you can run sensitivity much higher and get more depth in some cases that the Tejon.

I have had more that one Tejon and compared it to my Vaquero and not one Tejon could better the Vaquero on depth in disc mode in my soil.

That maybe different in other soil, but not where i live.

Ever wondered why i have more than one detector including the Vaquero but no Tejon ?

you don't say that on "another" certain Tesoro forum Andy as you will be promptly tarred and feathered or worse. :starwars:   I've had three Tejons and one Vaquero and the V was deeper than 2 of the three Tejons. The third Tejon was definitely deeper than the Vaquero. Given that, I'd recommend a prospective buyer try AT LEAST one of each (hopefully at a local dealer who has similar soil to that which you will be hunting in primarily) and buy the better performer of the two. Be careful of buying either used as there seems to be SOME of the less than stellar performing examples floating around.

Thanks, it's good to hear from someone that has used both. I really like the Vaquero. It seem to be real stable in heavy trash. Alot of the time I can run the sensitivity wide open. It air tests really well. I just heard so much about how deep the tejon is. I'm sure not ready to give up the V.
