Tejon or F70?

Hey guys,

I know I'm a little biased towards Tesoro and I'm sure we all are on this particular forum! However, I would like some opinions.

I am looking for a lightweight deep seeking detector for mostly home site and some ghost town detecting. I am looking at the fisher F70 with the DD coil or a Tejon. I just purchased a Bandido II Umax from J-Bird that I'm gonna check the depth on as well. However, between the F70 and Tejon, which one and why????? Let me hear it!!!

I have heard both good and bad about the Fisher machines.

You rarely read anything bad about the Tejon.

Plus's for the Tejon:

1. light weight
2. deep
3. simple to ground balance
4. vco
5. good discriminators
6. warranty
7. you do not have to watch a meter, which in most cases, most machines, tends to lie a lot.
8. great pinpointing
9. exceptionally fast circuitry and recovery

con's for the Tejon

1. knobs will turn easily so you will need o-rings or a cover
2. you must make sure the battery doors are tightly latched or you may lose a battery pack
3.

I hope the Bandido II serves you well Trent, I know I enjoyed it. I'm about to try out a Vaquero to see how it compares to the Tejon in Depth. I got one of the Straight Rods coming and considered mounting the Modded Silver I have on it but if the Vaquero works out like I think it will it'll have a new pole setup to rest on and keep the 5.75 coil mounted on it and the stock one on the Tejon. I'm thinking it may be time to let someone else enjoy the modded Silver UMax ... we'll see.

Well, the Bandido II will get it's maiden workout tomorrow morning. Going to do about four hours at an old early 1900's home site. I'm hoping for some deep silver. I've found several old wheats, so I know there's got to be silver there somewhere! I'll keep you posted.

Also, I just purchased a F70 AND a Tejon! I'm going to compare the DeLeon, Bandido II, F70, and Tejon. I'm looking forward to testing them and I'll post my findings after some good "drive" time with them....

Hey, looks like that Silver is already paying for itself Jay. Great machines!!!

I've read alot of good about the F70 Trent, whatever works best for your hunting situation. I had an xlt E series that I had lots of good finds on, I'm sure all the major brands have something we'd all love to try out at one time or another. I'll tell you this though .... I gotta find a stopping point after this Vaquero purchase.lol I'm spending too much money here lately. Well Maybe after I get a 5.75 coil ... maybe then I'll find a stopping point... you think?

I've never used a Tejon, but I would recommend it over the F70. If the F70 is anything like the F75 LTD I owned (briefly), stay away from it. It had me digging 14 inch holes with nothing in them. I couldn't even run the thing in my backyard thanks to power lines that weren't even over my property. The most unstable machine I've ever used. The build quality was poor as well.

First Texas actually has the audacity to charge $1249 for their new F75 LTD. Get an Explorer SE if you're going to spend that much.

Owned both and expect a lot of EMI(outside interference noise) to get depth with the F70 and quite pricey.

Tejon on the other hand gives depth without all the noise and the dual discriminator once you get the hang of it takes the place of a meter and certainly easier on the wallet and of course no one beats Tesoro for service after the sale.

And am sure many favor either and do well with them but from my standpoint still have the TeJon and the F70 is long gone...

I enjoy hearing these experiences! My goal is to test out all of the detectors I have now. The DeLeon, Bandido II, F70, and Tejon. After 6 months to a year of hard hunting, I plan on "thinning the heard" and settling on the DeLeon for cherry picking, The Bandido II for riding in the car when you come across one of those places you just can't pass up, and either the Tejon or F70 for those deep ghost town or older sites. The one detector that I will always have is my $150 Compadre! It rides in the car, is used by the kids, and I slay tot lots with it every chance I get!

Most of my testing will be between the F70 and Tejon. If I get the courage up, I may make a video of some of the comparisons. You just can't find any how to's or comparison's on the Tejon, DeLeon, etc? Not sure why? I would love to see some videos on those machines and just Tesoro's in general. I think a good video on the Tejon in reference to the dual disk use, etc, would be very helpful to a lot of folks. We'll see how it goes and I'll keep you guys posted!

Jay, as for the purchasing of detectors has to stop, I agree! My wife is gonna kill me, BUT, this will be it for awhile. I will sell either the F70 or Tejon after testing and go from there (so I say right now)Lol! The ONE thing that will get my money is a nice Display machine from Tesoro with MGB, etc. I would love a display model Tejon!!!! We'll see how it goes!!!
