TEJON MODELS-?

artzstuff1

New member
I keep hearing about production models of the tejon,, when did they change them and what was changed?

And also how do I know that mine is old production or the newer ? I figure monte or scully should know this maybe .

thanks

The Tejon has been out now a very long time. There were some with bad grips when they first started making them, but nothing else has every changed that I can remember.

There are 3 versions: standard, British (black) and French (black). I have had all three, British has an expanded iron range, but is not as deep as standard or French. I still keep standard and French version, these are the best detectors I have ever had.

Hi again Art,here in the U K we have the black model Tejon Pro which has Fixed or Manual ground balance + wider discrim + O rings fitted on the control knobs to stop them moving once set up. Hope this helps. Best Regards.

I like the idea of fixed or man. ,, that would be cool,,and the o-rings would be nice also,, they should offer that stuff here in the U.S.!!!!! I wonder why they dont????:sadwalk:,,,,,oh well,,,

thanks for the info,,

swing on!!!!!

Waiting for the snow to melt here, so I installed o rings also, except for the Ground Adjust. This dial sticks out further than the others and I wasn't sure whether to add another ring to the one already under there. 1/4" I.D. black rubber O rings are a perfect snug fit. Leslie, what does it look like under your Ground Adjust knob/dial/pot? With mine off (I'm in Canada), there is the standard small silver shaft, but the shaft also has a retention groove cut into it, with a black rubber o ring snapped into the groove, this is the only dial shaft like this. I'd like to snug up the G.B. also but do I need the space for this dial to move in and out imperceptibly as it's turned? Why the big gap between that dial and the face plate, compared to the other much closer dials? This dial must move in and out a tiny bit. Right?,Wrong? Thanks.

It is a Troy Shadow X-5

They are basically a tricked out Tejon from what I understand. I have never used one but I have never heard one thing bad about them and they are weatherproof. You can hunt them in the rain with no cover. They are said to be very well built and I believe that the coils are interchangable between the Tejon and the Troy. The Troy is a bit more expensive but you can pick up a used one for 400+ bucks.

I think the problem a lot of people have with depth using the Tejon or Troy in mineralized ground is that they are using a concentric coil, but that is just my opinion and it could be WRONG. Mine (Tejon) seems to do quite well with the 5.75 HOT DD coil.

Hi, Depressed and need HElP
After seeing what you have for machines. I need to ask a question. Just purchased a Excalibur and have a vasque. Really I need something for north east conditions. If I stayed with a Tereso what is better tejon, or cortes. I just want to find my first piece of something that's not iron. I haven't in 2 years got anything except iron. I think I have two many pins in my body maybe that's what attracts the iron. Really I want the best in Tersero what would you say for North East. I am sending my 2 year old out to be looked at cant get keep getting iron. But I would like purchase one I could enjoy and find some other than . I'm ready to give up. I'm selling my excalibur 11. I just purchased two weeks ago to a friend. Im just so down, see I had brain surgery for anersuym, hit by ball lighting , torn rotarcuff, torn keen in two places, broken foot all in 6 months. Thats what I wanted to do for the rest of my life is treasure hunt thats my dream but I'm losing it. I still have one more annie in my sinus which cant be fixed. If I told any one that I also have been abused at 56 years for 5 years they would say your strong and a survivor or crazy for not leaving. But this is my home and my daugters are here and grandchildren. So I just even remortage my house so I could purchase a new machine. Im just so depressed I'm about to give up- so the question of the Tersero's what is the best and what size coil. I need an angle to if you have one. I did find a musket ball once I screamed so loud the persons property I was on though wolves were eating me. I was smilng and dancing Just. maybe where I go it's the wrong place just always iron, nails, ox , horse shoes etc. Thanks everyone. Im the only one in my club thats a women going on 2 years havenn't found any to bring in . In less you are in scrap metal.
Thanks.

My brother-in-law had an aneurysm,In boot camp , I know what your going through...He still has massive headaches blurred vision sometimes. As far as detectors the problem with Tesoros
is the high frequency, This means they pick up on Iron, gold and other low conductive metals better than most other machines.About the only machine that you could try from Tesoro that
may help with Iron but not eliminate it would be( in my opinion ) the Golden because it has tone ID,or the Cortes,or Deleon, because of the numeric ID.But as I said these machines are still
high frequency so large iron will still come in as a good target.....Other than that I would suggest going to a lower frequency detector..you will still find large iron but not as much nails.
There are many manufacturers of lower frequency detectors at a reasonable price... Garrett Ace 250/550...Minelab X-Terra 305/505...Fisher F4/F5,and the new Teknetics line
that people are crazy about,I even pondered buying one...Teknetics Gamma 6000/Omega 8000. Well that's as much help as I can give. The rest is up to you.

I hope things get better in the future for you Annie, and best wishes,Curt

Get an ACE 250, notch out the iron or put it in jewelry mode, low tone junk, high tone good (to keep it extremely simple). I have found many old silver, copper coins and copper/brass relics with mine. I apologize for this because it's a Tesoro forum. But this woman is asking from the heart and I don't care who makes a / the detector that will be cheap to buy, easy to use, effective and will help this lady. This woman's request as a fellow hobbyist is the main issue.

Have you ever hunted a modern park, especially near the play ground area ? You say you have a Vaquero ? Do you have the small coil for it ? If not, it would be a good investment for park and tot lot ( playground ) areas.

Maybe you are not ground balancing the V properly. It may be best if you scale DOWN your detector...sell the V and get a preset/fixed GB detector like the Cibola or maybe better yet....a Silver uMax. ( unless you want target ID, then get the DeLeon). With the money you get for the V, you can get a small coil for the other machine.

To start off, hunt with the discrimination high to knock out the junk and get the surface coins. Get your confidence factor up by digging coins...even if they are newer coins. You never know if a shallow wheat penny or silver coin will be dug.

When you have confidence in yourself and your machine, hunt the parks with the discrimination just above iron to knock out the nails, and dig everything that sounds good. You will dig junk, but you will also have the possibility to dig up gold jewelry.

Forget beach hunting with the Excal ( or any machine for that matter) now. It's getting warm out, the ground will be soft and easy to dig...go for the park hunting. Beach hunting is hard...there are so many nuances to it. That is what I mainly do, but some of the beaches here in NJ are getting sanded in and you really have to pick your spots. I am switching to land/relic hunting for a while so I can a least find some OLD stuff !

You have to remember...this is a FUN hobby. Don't worry about the club meetings and what the other people are finding. Get out there, relax, use a detector that is easy and lightweight and dig. I am sure you will end up getting something other than iron very soon.
