Tejon in iron (nails and misc pieces)

Has anyone hunted in a CW camp or picket post with a pretty thick carpet of small iron and been able to pick out a button among the nails? In other words, how well does it work at picking up good targets with a lot of small iron in, around, and above good targets?

Thick layers of iron can mask targets with almost any machine, but some handle it better than others. On the Tejon, if you set the audio at about 3:00 position, with your disc just above foil, iron targets have real "snap" to them, a sharpness to the audio that with practice you can recognize. The small 575 coil helps a lot and is almost as deep as the standard coil. I would attack a spot like you described using that small coil. You will still miss some targets from masking, to be sure, but the Tejon does pretty well in iron if you slow down a bit and overlap your patterns.

Canewrap;
Scully is right on. I been working on a fort dump with a 5X75 conc. with my Tejon. I dig some and spread it out and detect in 4 direction very slow with the disc. set at foil and listen. It works, but its work! No pain no gain.

If you know its a productive site and have the time, you may consider clearing out that iron carpet, maybe in just sections, and work it like that...you never know whats hiding underneath:shrug:

5.. Work from various directions of approach and recover all good or decent "iffy" target responses and get what you can, knowing that target masking will always be there. This is done with just enough rejection to knock out common iron nails.

6.. Put in the time to recover ALL targets, both ferrous and non-ferrous, using a minimum Disc. setting to accept All Metals (with the Tej
