Tejon in bad ground

There's a few places where I hunt that have pretty bad ground around the border between AL and TN. When I've hunted those spots I have to use my digital Minelab machine, but would prefer to use the Tejon. I'm just wondering if the 12X10 DD coil makes it possible to get back some of the depth lost when using the stock coil over bad ground? In iffy ground can that larger DD coil get 9" on a Minnie ball, with a recognizable good signal, not just a ticking noise?

I don't hunt enough bad ground to help much with a good comparison of the 12x10 to the standard coil over bad ground. What bad spots I have hunted, I've found a proper ground balance to be pretty important. Monte's Power Balancing method gets the best ground balance with the Tesoro detectors I've used. It is easier to do the power balance with my modified Cibola than it is the Tejon. When I'm not sure I'm getting a good read on power balancing with the Tejon, I sometimes ground balance it per the manual, to where it sounds neutral in all metal mode, then turn it about 1/8th of a turn negative (counter clockwise). That seems to be pretty close for the Tejon that I have when using it to hunt in discrimination mode.

Good luck to you!
