Tejon...I need help!

Yesterday I went detecting with my dad at an old Baptist meeting house from 1857. I had my Tejon out, and was looking forward to some action. I ground balanced my detector, set the sensitivity around 8, and had the disc level around foil.

My problem started almost right away, with the detector beeping erratically, and just acting up. There were a few power lines around the property, but nothing that seemed unusual. When I did get a signal that I thought seemed legitimate, as soon as I removed a plug, the signal would disappear!

I've heard that the halo effect of iron can be pretty bad, but this seemed to be something else. I tried every trick I knew, including: reducing sensitivity, re-ground balancing, and moving away from obvious sources of EMI, but nothing seemed to work.

I'm hoping an old pro might have some guidance for a young buck like me.

Thanks for the time!

Try this; Set sensitivity at "0" and then while working turn sen. up until ------.
Could be under ground power.
If that don't work move on.

Check the obvious like the coil connection and batteries. Try it before you get to the meeting house. If it is OK but then acts up at the meeting house, I'd look for a strong interfering signal. Like mentioned, any underground cables?

My Tejon gave some strange signals, when hitting the ground or at the end of the swing. It appeared to be a bad battery pack, bought a new one and the problem was gone.
