Tejon Help.

Can someone explain the Alt Dis setting on this machine and its use in the field.

There are lots of ways to use it. The main way I use it is- set disc 1 at about the "I" in foil. Set disc 2 just past knocking out a pulltab. Detect in disc 1 and when you get a good sounding target, use the trigger to go to disc 2 and see if it is a coin. It let's you hear everything and do a quick coin check (minus nickels at the settings I just gave). If a target sounds sweet in two directions for disc 1 I can choose to still dig it. If it is still there in disc 2 and sizes up like a coin, I am definitely digging.

Some of the more experienced users of this detector have methods of setting it up for a nickel check.

If I get faint hit in disc 1, and it is repeatable in two directions, I always dig. This thing can find some small stuff really deep.

Sometimes when I am just looking for deep targets I don't use disc 2 at all because I am digging anything that is faint and passes my disc 1 setting.

For me its best used to hunt with the main disc set pretty low so the detector won't mess much even if I'm hunting higher conductors. This gives me a chance to try and isolate the target better, then toggle to disc 2 to see if the target makes the range that I'm actually looking for.

One common thing that many Tesoro users do is to "thumb" the discrimination control on models that only have one, well with the Tejon you can preset disc 2 to a higher range and then just toggle to it.

In most cases I only use disc one, but its nice to have the disc 2 option.

The first detector that I know of that was setup like that is the Fisher 1265/1266, I currently have a 1266 and I'm thinking this may (????) have been where Tesoro got the idea from. The 1265/1266 were legendary among relic hunters of the day.

I very seldom use the second discriminator. The only few times that I did use it was when I got into a whole bunch of beaver tail pulls and there seem to be no end to them. I set the second discriminator to where they were just starting to break up. It work pretty good at identifying those nasty beaver tails.

Disc 2 saves the time and trouble of "thumbing" a single discriminator knob as you are scanning a target. Using the Tejon's trigger you can check a target in disc 1, disc 2, or all metal instantly. It really helps when comparing the sounds.
