TeJon Ground Balance Issue?HELP

Hello,
I have a new tejon and I cant seem to ground balance it !! I do as the book says but when I raise the coil I get a sound as if the machine was locating an object in vco mode! I tried to gb in many locations and have the same result! at times I just get a steady tone as if pinpointing a target if I hold the machine in the air for a second or two it will go back to threshold but when I raise and lower it again the tone! I have set it on a table in the house and done as the manual suggests as far as air tests and it works fine!! any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks In Advance
HH.

To GB mine, I usually have it in Disc mode, find a non-metallic path of ground, then use the pinpoint trigger to balance it. It works really fast. Just pull the trigger with the coil lifted, wait for the threshold hum to stabilize, then bob it up and down and listen for the positive or negative reaction to the ground, and set appropriately. Hop this helps?!?

it is my understanding you only adjust the Ground Balance for sounds the detector makes on the way down with the coil. You should not make adjustments on the way up with the coil at all.
