Tejon depth?

JHM

Member
I was wondering how much depth difference there is between the Tejon vs a Vaquero? I'm planning to use it to rehunt some places and see if anything is left. I would like to hear from people that have used both machines.

might get a little better depth in some environments.

It has the All Metal mode and, if a site has been hard hunted and cleaned out (thinned down) that would give you an 'edge'.

If the sites you want to "re-hunt" still have an assortment of trash targets, especially iron, then I think you'd do better to just re-hunt them now with a minimum discriminate setting and recover ALL signals! What's masking good targets from your Vaquero will most likely mask them from the Tej

The Vaquero is a good machine but properly tuned the Tejon will hit inches deeper. Those that tell you otherwise have not used the Tejon properly or long enough to learn it well enough to talk about its abilities.

if I am hunting the very mineralized sand on two major rivers in Portland, or also in the volleyball sites at a few parks.

I got better depth with an Eldorado w/8x9 and a Vaquero w/8x9 when used in the same bad ground. Same thing happened in a favorite ghost town that is surprisingly more mineralized than around here in NW Oregon.

But, as I mentioned, in some environments it might get a little better depth, and I like the fact that you can opt to hunt in All Metal. But before JHM shells out the bucks for a new Tej

Don't get me wrong I am very happy the with the Vaquero. It hits about 30 percent deeper since it rained last night. One good thing I've noticed about Tesoros is the resale. If you don't like someone else will, provided you take care if it. This is just one more day in my quest for the perfect detector. Everything here has been pounded for years and I'm always looking for an edge.

So far, I can't see whats not to like, at least on the Tesoro's I have and use.

Tejon
Cortes
Cibola
Silver uMax

and some additional coils to boot.

I think the Tejon allows for a signifigant depth advantage over the Vaquero becuase of it's ease of operaion to search in a true all-metal mode (unlike the Vaquero).

I had searched areas using my vaquero supertuned in discimation mode.

I then re-searched the same areas using my Tejon in all-metal mode and found lots of new stuff.

By design, the Tejon is easy to use and search in all-metal mode. A flip of the trigger then allows you to check out the target with some discrimination and decide to dig or not.

With the Vaquero I typicaly searched using it in supertuned discimination mode. It would take too long and too much knob fiddling to switch back and forth between all-metal and disc and then reset the supertuning etc. so I hunted with some form of discimination on.

I suspect I'm getting deeper targets now because I belive the all-metal mode is deeper than a supertuned disc. mode.

Note, you need to decide if your prepared to hunt in all-metal mode to take full advantage of the Tejon. If there is alot of iron or other junk laying around it will likely force you to hunt in some disc. mode, thus removing one of your biggest advantage for the Tejon. (IMHO).

I hope this helps.
