Tejon and Coins

Smudge

New member
Been reading on the forums that the Tejon is a great deep seeking relic hunter, but may not be the best deep seeking coin detector in Tesoro's lineup.

What do Tejon users think?

I use mine all the time for coin shooting, never had a problem. This detector love gold and nickles:thumbup:

took mine for its maiden voyage today with CSC to a field i have been over with several machines and in my mind there was no coins left so i on purpose went there, very 1st thing i noticed was how sensitive it is to the point of being very taxing if a bird ate a little piece of foil and dropped it on the field this detector would pick it up.

i was unaware there was so much tiny pieces of foil and can there which did not disc out and do on my Cibola same coil. but its to be expected with a high frequency super sensitive machine, the good news found several coins most on edge about 4 to 5 in's deep.

so my concussions of this machine after the 1st hit out, super sensitive on small foil small pieces of can if you can stand the chatter from those it will find you coins in the junk, and from this i would say a killer on gold and other low conductors foil, can slaw......so my thinking is smaller coil go slower in these areas of small bits of junk, cleansweep for not so much junk.

at this point this machine is for a field with very minimal junk with CSC small coil for junk and i believe NEL are bringing out a 15 x 17 coil 4 pin and this will go on for dry sand this will kick butt on the dry sand beach.

these are my thoughts today and i am sure they will change some in time but i see a spot in my needs for this machine so its a keeper.

if it can balance up in the gold fields i am sure it would do great on small gold.

just a few more thoughts if its a coin shooter anyone is looking for then the Cibola or umax machines will do as well or better than the tejon and with much more user comfort IMHO.

but if you suspect gold then this is the one comparable to the Gold bug pro with more grunt i see why Tesoro market this as a relic machine i do believe it punches deep it sure has the power put some good battery's in and it will go deep deep, deeper than i want to dig. hence the dry sand beach without using it there i thinks got to be a winner there.

anyway enough from me. more testing needed :)

I have been using my Tejon for about a month now with fantastic results. I have hit many areas that I have deemed non productive with a GTP 1350 and have pulled many old targets and coins out of the ground from 5 - 11 inches deep. My deepest coin was a 1834 British six pence at about 9 inches. I run my primary discrimination right at foil and my secondary just below nickle. With these settings you still pick up large pieces of can slaw and the old foil that is clumped together. Once I get a solid hit in the primary and have it pinpointed I switch it over to the secondary and as long as it is somewhat stable I will dig it. If the signal waivers or breaks up I move on. This machine is a nickle machine as well as other coins. I don't usually come home without 4-5 nickles every hunt. I have picked up 2 nice gold rings this month with this machine from those non productive sites as well as some silver rings. Do date since I have started detecting I have not found a single gold chain with any detector. If I am to get one I am sure it will be with the Tejon. The only regret that I have with Tesoro is that I should have started with them as soon as I started detecting. Any other question just ask, I probably won't be able to answer but someone will.
