Tejon 2nd coil?

WV62

Well-known member
Well my new to me Tejon is here and I have been going through the manual and playing around in the yard, but it is a little to cold and wet to get out on a hunt. I would like to know what would be a good coil to start watching for? The detector came with the 9x8 and the only hunting I do is coin and inland jewelry. I am leaning in the direction of one of those 5 3/4" coils.

I would like to get the 10" football shaped coil for my Vaquero. I would say that if you want a small coil then get it. I have my Vaquero and a Compadre, so I have the two covered. I'm like everyone else, I use small coils in small areas and big coils in big areas.

5.75 coil is great in trashy areas and will surprise you with the depth for its size.

Lets take this question up a notch!
Best coil for small gold?

What's out there as far as aftermarket coils?

Also I noticed there is two different 5.75" coils,
Widescan, and
Concentric,

Unless you have bad ground, I would stick to the concentric for the 5.75 coil. The concentric gets better depth and discrimination. Just read the post at the head of this forum about Widescan coils.

For your second coil, it's been pretty well covered already: 5.75 inch concentric paired with the standard coil pretty much covers it. Then see what type of hunting you are doing, what you are finding and how deep.

For coil number 3 ... If most of what you dig is 6 inches deep or less where you are hunting and:
1) it is not too trashy
2) you are hunting a lot of areas where targets may be fairly widely dispersed
3) there is a fair chance of finding concentrations or spills and you want to find them quickly,
Then you may have a case for finding a cleansweep coil. I use a cleansweep fairly often on the Tejon for sports fields and the larger tot lots.
Cheers,
