TEJOHN V VAQUERO QUESTION....

anton

New member
ive had a vaquero b4 and i enjoyed it as a coinshooter,b4 i decided that i had to have tone id and vdi,lol :)... but now im thinking of trading for a tejohn,im not a relic hunter tho..would the tejohn be a similar coinhunter as the vaquero? is it stable?(ie,im not to fussed on 'chattery' detectors)..any info much appreciated..i know in theory they should be similar and im intrigued with the dual discrim on the tejohn, any info comparisons much appreciated :)

I chose the vaquero. I tried the Tejon too.

I have to ask: what is it about dual disc that interests you? To me it just seems like a quick way to ignore targets, but personally I'd dig.

The Tejon is more sensitive... For me that meant I was digging flecks of foil. I can see why it's a better nugget hunter. I try to dig coin size targets though.

I didn't try adjusting the tone on Tejon, but to me this sounds like a plus.. I read higher tone has advantages, but some people prefer low tone anyways.

The only way to know for sure is to try one... I preferred the vaq.

I stepped up to the tejon from a cibola for coin shooting. Ive found the Tejon to be an awesome coin hunter! In the constantly changing soil conditions i hunt in, the tejon is much more stable with its adjustable G.B. (cibola is preset and at times gets very chattery when soil changes) I also use the 5.75 wide scan coil exclusively with it, gets great depth, and much better target separation. The dual discrimination's are a very handy feature. I use them to identify zinc pennies so I don't waste my time digging them. although its designed as a relic hunter, Its the best coin shooter I've had! Ive never owned a vaquero, i considered one when I bought the Tejon. choose the Tejon because of its extra features and versatility, you could always run it with only one discrimination(like the vaquero) and still have the other when you need it. It also has power to spare, in that I mean I havnt had to run my sensitivity as High as it will go. I find it goes deeper than i care to dig at a setting of 5, and runs very stable.Adjustable tone is also a nice feature, not sure if it helps with identification yet, but The higher tones are more pleasent to my ears. So, power to spare, dual discrimination's, awesome coils available for it, makes it a hard detector to beat! If you can afford the extra$$ for the Tejon, it would be well spent! Just my opinion based on my experience. hope it helps!:detecting:

copied this off of another board....

"On other boards complaints about the Tejon being noisy or unstable is operator error. Some places just call for less sens as most guys crank their machine up past half way thinking they get more depth when they are only dialing in more minerals and signals from outside sources. They probably have on their cell phones too.

The new Tigers and Sand Sharks can have a 8" or 10.5" coil. The advantage to the larger coil is more area covered per sweep and more depth. Since it isn't a DD coil you have to over lap 50%. Poor coil control results in missed targets and the guy coming up the rear finds stuff the other missed. First guy has a good detector only he is swinging it like a pendulum an not over lapping."
