GRT. FINDS

.58 caliber, issued with regular 3 ring bullets, one cleaner with every 10 regular ones, paper cartridges, black powder. The zinc base was supposed to help "clean" the bore when fired but the black powder from firing just fouled the bore again. As many as we find I don't think the soldiers liked them. Type I and type II are longer with three rings, type II has the same base, type I has a zinc disc that usually disintegrates when dug leaving a small stubb on the bottom of the bullet. Type III are common finds in our area.
