Technical Support from Minelab

Is anyone else experiencing poor response from the service area of Minelab?

I need a replacement bolt for the 1/4" headphone adapter unit as mine has become stripped.

4 phone calls, 2 emails and a bunch of frustration later I cannot get a response from them. "leave a message" or
when someone does answer they just say they will forward to service department.

I am off to the hardware store to get another bolt but I really do not want to have to carry around a wrench.

Very disappointing service on a simple part request.

Minelab service can be hit or miss. Mostly hit though. Have you tried your dealer? Or, are you trying to get one under warranty? Either way I would probably call my dealer and ask them to help out.

I bought it from another individual......the unit is 13 months old. This afternoon Minelab called to tell me to send in the detector for service! THE WHOLE DETECTOR for a VINYL bolt!

I asked them why and they did not have an answer. Gheezzzz...........all I need is a bolt.

That is not going to happen unless they are going to pay the postage both ways! Maybe I should wrap the thing up with duct tape and start posting pictures of it on the internet.

I upgraded from the AT PRO. Boy do I miss Garrett's service.

I will stop tomorrow at the hardware store for a bolt of some sort for temporary. Then I will send in the old bolt only if I can get them to issue a rma.

"Sounds like you're being a bit hard on them! I can't imagine they'd be that vague?
They are not going to pay your postage!"

Perhaps. What would your reaction be if you needed a nylon bolt that is worth maybe 2 bucks retail and they want you to send in the whole detector ? Postage and insurance on that would probably be 40? 50?

Would you incur that cost? I doubt it.

If that was Garrett they would have sent out the bolt immediately.

I am venting, of course but the 3030 is a top of the line machine and I expect better.

i would get in touch with a dealer and have him/her send you a new one. HERE IS A PHONE NO# ASK 4 ED 865-394-5200

DONE DEAL!!!!!!!!!!

"I'm having a hard time trying to figure out exactly what you require? "Headphone adapter bolt?"
Where does this go???"

IT IS NOT 4 ME TCORNEL NEEDS PLASTIC BOLT I THINK THAT PLUGS HEADPHONE UP
THEY WANT HIM TO SEND THE DETECTOR IN (CRAZY) 4 THE BOLT IF I RED HIM RITE

Tcornel I am confused as to what bolt you need. Are you talking about the 1/4 inch nylon plug you hand screw into the head phone jack to make it water proof ?

It is the black nylon bolt that attaches the headphone module to the 3030. It screws into the brass ferrule receptacle just to the left of the headphone plug.

You would take it out and remove the module to attach the waterproof headphones.

Then you would reattach the module and tighten the bolt to be able to use the wm10 or another set of headphones.

What happens is salt water and sand get into the brass ferrule in the 3030 with no good way to clean them. So the result
is the nylon bolt's threads become stripped. This bolt serves no purpose other than attaching the module to the main unit.

I went to eBay and bought a pack of 10 for about 8 bucks. They are metric 6m, 50 mm long with a pan head.
I also bought a pack of 6m, 20 mm bolts so I could screw it into the main unit to fill the hole when going into the water.

The problem with the service center might be that they do not stock common parts?? So instead of grabbing a nylon bolt from the parts
bin they probably will send out an entire module. That would explain why they wanted the unit back. They might be checking the brass
ferrule to see if it is stripped or corroded. Not applicable in my case but possible. Extreme overkill. Sometimes they should just
believe the customer and send out the part which would have a minimal cost.

Tcornel : I called Minelab today trying to help you out. I am NO way connected with Minelab but they finally did do right by me after 2 1/2 years on my ctx. I talked to a Nadia today and TRIED to explain to her what we wanted. I had her take he CTX apart and get that little plug needed to seal up the water proof headphone connection. She is going to get back to me. I agree with you that some times we should be able to buy a part that is needed for our detectors. I will post more when she gets back to me.

Tcornel: I got off the phone with Nadia at Minelab again :) She now undersatands what you need. She is going to mail me one and i will mail it to you if you PM me your address. If you want her to mail you instead pm me and i will give you her phone number and you can talk to her . Hope this solves the problem and NO WAY does tha tneed to be sent back in. I think your interpratation of the part is different from theres. It is a Plug that seals that connection.

Happy Hunting Gare

Tcornel are you OK ? I spent a lot of time finding out the information you needed. I have not heard back from you. I have the part you need for your ctx3030 to waterproof your machine. I will mail it to you FREE of cost but i need to know where to send it /
