Technical Fun

I think that some time we discuss topics that give people the impression that the V3i is more complicated than it is. It's fun to get technical for some of us. The truth is most of the things we discuss aren't necessary to make good finds. In many cases it is good enough to know that a setting will get a result. It isn't necessary to know how it does it.

Jeff Fosters last two books had great information but again much was just nice to know but not necessary. If you like some of the in depth discussions, join in. Otherwise get out and make those super finds.

I will man up ..I don't know what you guys are talking about half the time when you go technical.. truthfully..I don't know what a good deal of the things are in the Manual on the V3i either.. How's that for TRUTH !!

I'm still looking for an explanation on the Terms used............. Any help would be appreciated in knowing what each feature means to the Layman...

Example >> I'm sure it's simple if you know TX Boost .. What does that mean ??????? How does it affect my detector when changed..That is just one of the terms.. Never heard of that term on any detector I used in the past..

It would thrill me if you went right down the line and just gave a simple explanation of what the Terms means..and how it affects the V3, V3i machines..

I'm betting their are others out there too that don't really know ........ and just won't ask...

LOL So like your signature says Advice is cheap... mines free...... Can you give me some Free Hahahahahahaha

TX boost increases the output of the detector X3 (3 times). Under conditions where you can run TX boost you can expect to gain 1" in depth.

I can answer one question at a time.

To be honest, for the most part I set it and forget it. The only adjustments I usually make are the RX Gain and Discriminate Sensitivity. I rarely use the Expert Menus.

The normal voltage to the coil is about 10 volts but when you turn on the Transmit Boost, it increases the voltage to 30. Kind of like turning your your bright lights on.......... when allowed.

The owners manual says: Tx Boost

I learned something. Put in those terms I get it LOL... I'm being serious when I say this.. For only one inch depth gain I will leave it alone...But will try and understand it better

I would think then. Some ground may reflect back to much return, and saturate and distort the signal. Is that correct ??.

You got it my friend............:clapping: More often than not, less is more.

Just got my v3i the other day and as i did with my dfx, i will choose a program and learn the machine within that program. I feel that Hi pro will be a good one to start with by reading posts by others. Tested it out on the carpet with a few choice coins and the d coil is a little different on pinpointing compared to the concentrics. oh well, any adive would be great--winter is coming and the days are short so have to make the best of it.

In regards to technical abbreviations i would like to see a list of what all the abbreviations mean just a suggestion for some of us older and not so techhnical people thanks

As alluded to in the silver thread, what might be some other "theoretical" ways to find deep silver in iron? My ground is mild with high iron mineralization. I usually hunt in correlate with the 6X10 coil and a RD of 45 ish. I wonder about upping that RD down even more (against suggested convention). I like running zero tone on iron.

To hit this from many angles, what might be some other possibilities (e.g. - 2.5kHz, Tx in iron to get a spark out of those coins above the iron, etc.) to hunt for silver in iron? What might be some non standard ways to try out? I am willing to play with the settings, lets here what might work and possibly why?

Thx,
EMS

Which technical abbreviations do you need explained?
