This addressed to everyone, specially the once who has an electronics background.

My wrist is really getting sore lately and I think its from excessive use of my MD:detecting: and I really think its the pinpoint button. ( I'm gona blame it on her!!!! ):ranting: Yeah as i was saying my wrist is getting sore, thumb part as well!

Here my question now - Is it possible to connect this switch ( for pin pointing ) below the display box around the part where you grip the detector. I believe that would really lessen the stress on my wrist.

Possible?? Of course! Practical?? well, the way Garretts are put together I wouldnt do it.

First, try the "Rubber Bumper PinPoint Modification?"
To do this nifty little trick, go to the hardware store and get some of those half inch silicone rubber stick=on cushioning bumpers. Theyre made for the bottom of small cabinets and stuff so they dont mar shelves and so on. you can find them where they carry furniture gliders and carpet protectors for furniture legs.
Then, take one and stick it on the PP button on the detector of your choice. Ther're about fifty in a pack, so you get a life time supply.
It really makes a difference, making the PP feature easier to employ.

Heres a pic of my 1350 with the bumper-button in place. This one is the smaller version, anout 3/8".There is one a little bigger at 1/2". (pay no attention to the out of focus pic).

I keep turning my 250 off when all I want to do is use the pinpoint button. Saving strain on the wrist is one thing, but this will make sure that I always hit the button I want to hit, and not something else.

I love simple, effective ideas like that. Beautiful.

I guess its worth a try, I know someone suggested the same thing only I wasnt able to picture it. Now I get it!!!!!:heh:

Thanks!!!!

I've always thought they should mount the pinpoint in the upper part of the grip in the form of a compression trigger switch so all you had to do was squeeze it with your forefinger.

Whites knows the value of these and so did Fisher on its 1266X and others. Why cant the rest of them pick up on this. Bill, John, you guys have the ear of Charles G..... go to work on him!

And that would make me happy and stay with Garrett:thumbup:

Having a built in feature that would produce a tone that would audible increase as the centre of the coil comes into contact with the coin/ring etc and than decrease in tone as you move away from centre same as holding down the pinpoint on the unit but with one difference.

Basically the threshold tone would trigger when the LCD indicates a coin/ring/pull tab etc.No pin pont or push buttons.

...interesting concept. Only as long as it's selectable, Spanky. I dont use the pinpoint on every target, and having a VCO pinpoint (which I'm not rabid over in the first place) kick in over every pulltab, penny amd doodad would drive me nutso!

In clean target environments it might be fun to have, though. Call Charles Garrett with your idea. You never know!

Your right!.....selectable would be sweet.Maybe it should be like an autoengage feature on what your hunting such as rings only or clad or both.

I have an 10 year old Micronta MD thats retired that I would adjust the ground control so I have a low continuos tone. When set properly it is dead on every time when targeting in discrimination mode. The coil is so sensitive it will pick up peripheral stuff as well.No push buttons & no triggers.Target would be located in 2 or 3 seconds.Basically its like having the pin point feature on all the time (steady tone).I'd just lower the volume and hunt.Typically I'd have headphones on with only the tone audible on one ear....both ears drive me bonkers.

Cheers!
