Teaching the E trac a thing or two ????

I have a (probally really dumb ) question about the E trac and teaching it the disc patterns and such. I know I have always did my teaching and accepting or not accepting items in a airtest system. I use each coin I can find from 1 dollar tiny gold piece to 20 dollar gold piece and all the clad and silver in between. that is what i use for a pattern and I have doubts this is good enough for some things I do want to find.
I began to wonder when I found a sliver plated stainless steel cross on the ground with a nice chain that the machine did not pick up. if i had not seen it it would still be there. I ran the coil over it and nothing.
My question is can you put the detector in the all black screen and teach mode so to speak and hunt with it?? as you hunt dig every item you find and either accept it or reject it and when you have done a few hunts this way use that pattern and maybe even combine it with the above pattern i have??
These things do about anything you want when it comees to the computer programing so is this possible?? and if so is it very practical to do it that way??

You can start with an all open screen and black out the targets you don't wish to continue to dig. BUT you will eventually black out foil and aluminum and miss gold or fatty IH's and such.

I did the same thing with my e-trac with accepting only targets i wanted to dig with an air test and much like you i found i was possibly missing alot of good stuff when i accidently found a small gold ring on the top of the ground with no response from my MD. After this i modified the stock coin pattern by simply opening up the top right corner where all my larger silver coins like to pop up and it's worked great so far. I still dig some trash like foil and pull tabs but have also found many more small gold rings i am sure i was missing before. In addition i have started to learn my numbers as to which are the "good" targets which helps me to avoid some of the trash. Your plan sounds as if it would work pretty well and I am always interested in learning new ways of using my e-trac. Keep me posted if you try it out and how it works for you. GL
