TDI vs DP PI

El

Active member
Has any compared or heard of any beach hunting depth comparisons between the two units?

Thanks,

El

The TDI would blow it away in every aspects except being waterproof. The TDI is more sensitive, and considerly more powerful in the transmitter department. Oh did I forget to mention, it's the worlds first discriminating PI detector.

The Dual Field is still the old Surfmaster PI, Surfmaster PI Pro, modified.

And to finish this off, No, I am not a Whites dealer. I have no financial gain from the sale of either unit.

The TDI fastest pulse delay is 10 useconds and the battery pack charges to 16.8 volts. The Surfmaster Dual Field fastest pulse delay is 15 useconds and the battery pack holds 8 AA batteries for 12.8 volts. They both use the same 12 inch coil housing but the coils are not interchangeable.

It is what it is, Mr. Bill. If the DF PI is just a revamp of the Surf Pro PI as I suspected then it's old technology in a fancy new package. Minor improvements I would guess and then the return of the gain adjustment but basically the same old machine with a bigger double coil. The truth is an absolute defence.
This begs the question: When will we be seeing a waterproof version of the TDI? I realize there will be issues with heat build up and developing a waterproof case but otherwise it seems doable.
Sooner, Later or Never?
I'm thinking of buying one and waterproofing it myself is why I ask the question.

Cheers,

BDA:cool:

Your just shooting from the hip, I like that.
It's more of an educated guess than just shooting from the hip.(if it sounds like BS and smells like BS it probably is BS!) I think I may be better off with a homemade submersible TDI than a marketing spin unit. God gave me a brain but it's up to me to make use of it.:crylol: It's not uncommon for manufacturers to repackage a tried and true product even though it is getting long in the tooth. Brand loyalty will produce the required sales and retooling costs are minimal. I'm part of that 10% that will push the envelope and try a new product so the repackaged is not for me but the cutting edge is, even if it's not totally ready for use.
A pelican case, some waterproof connectors and a away I go. Maybe Whites will take a hint and make a submersible version, hopefully they will dither for a long time and give me an edge for at least a year or two.

Kewl,

Can you buy a TDI now? I have not found one for sale yet. If you waterproof it, won't the surrounding water keep it cool? Can you waterproof a DFX? I would really like to see that too.
