TDI Numbers for the AT Pro

synthnut

Well-known member
Has anyone written a TDI Numbering scale for coins or objects for the USA machines ? .....For example , what number on your AT Pro comes up for a

Memorial Penney Zinc ?
Penney Copper ?
Nickel ?
Buffalo Nickel ?
Clad Dime ?
Rosie Silver Dime ?
Barber Dime ?
Quarter
Silver Quarter ?
Silver Barber Quarter ?
ETC ..ETC ETC ..............I am asking because I would like to see if there are a bunch of coins that are pushed into one number .....For example on some machines Silver, Quarters, and Copper Pennies , all read the same number ....Is this the same on the AT Pro ? .....Thanks, Jim

Come on boys and girls !!!.....With all the air tests SOMEBODY has to have some numbers here for some good ole US coins ......Jim

Jim----The AT Pro DOES NOT detect U.S. coins!----Whoa, I'm gonna git in truble fer that un!----C'mon everybody, loosen up a little & smile (or test some U.S. coins). --------Del

Mine won't pick up a quarter on top of the ground! Picks up a nickel and a dime, but won't touch a quarter. Pinpoint ramps up to full volume when it is used. This is my second unit, the first wouldn't work in pro mode. Who knows.

Zinc penny. 75

Copper penny. 82

Dime 81

Nickel 53

Quarter. 87

Silver dime. 82

Silver Quarter. 90

Buffalo Nickel. 53

1903 Indian Head 75

These are the numbers I got yours may be different. Ground conditions can change ID too. Copper penny was one higher than dime never saw this on a detector before even tried a second dime.

Which is why the chart in the manual shows a smear for each target type. The idea that a dime is always going to show up as an 82 for example is wrong. The amount of time it has been in the ground and the amount of corrosion on the coin surface for instance will lower the coin's target ID value as they increase. An example of this I just saw with another brand of machine is a 1868 Indian Head I found recently - it showed up as a solid 42 - the same as a pulltab for this machine and it wasn't all that deep for this machine as I have found coins twice as deep as the Indian and the TID was a solid lock with no jumping around. It was because the coin was covered in green corrosion. I was just barely able to get a date off of it after soaking it in olive oil for a month.

Also to answer the question about the TID numbers for coins being bunched together - they are on this machine. This machine has 40% of its target ID numbers dedicated to iron alone plus another 40% dedicated to lower conductive metals like lead, tin, brass, aluminum, which leaves only 20% of the TID numbers for coins. This is typical for a relic machine. Coin shooting machines with 0-99 target ID scales typically have 30% or more of their target ID numbers dedicated in the coin range so you can get more separation for coins. This is one of several reasons why it is easy to see that Garrett designed this machine to be a relic hunter.

They probably thought that most of you coin shooters would wait for the upgrade to the GTI machines which is why they got caught with their pants down trying to fill the pre-orders for the AT. Now if you bought this machine to coin shoot with you will do ok with it as coins are just another type of relic so any relic machine can find coins. However the new coin shooter (whatever they decide to call it) will have features that make finding coins easier such as an expanded target ID in the coin range instead of the iron range, imaging, perhaps a lower frequency more suitable for finding deep silver instead of a high frequency better for the lower conductors, probably have a concentric coil instead of a DD as the standard coil, probably have scan track and ground tracking too since the GTI machines have these features already. I also wouldn't be surprised if the new coin shooter has a salt elimination circuit too for the ocean beaches.

Yeah all these purchasers of the AT may be sad when a new coinshooter is unveiled by Garrett and I'm sure one is on the way, perhaps by Spring. I look for an upgrade on the GTI's. Wish Garrett would get on the stick and get one or two out soon. The AT is a great machine but as you say it's designed mainly for relics as the target ID isn't expanded far enough in the coin range. A new machine should also sport multiple, adjustable, frequencies to run the gamut between all types of metal.

Thank you Jason for the numbering list .....I appreciate it tremendously ...I basically wanted to see how many coins were ganged together on one number , and I see that the numbering is all over the place which is GREAT .....I do realize too that with the frequency that this machine runs at, and the number scheme that is used , that it is geared more toward Relic hunting , but that is not going to stop me from finding some nice jewelry on the beach and since it's got a 40% range on lower conductive metals , that would include GOLD !!...... Works for me !!......and yes, the numbers will change when in different soil and sand conditions, but the fact that in one particular soil , the numbers are NOT ganged together for a few different coins makes me happy !!.....Thanks again for the list Jason ....Jim

Mine is working great at coin hunting id's are right on. Also the notching works well. You can set up a program in Pro mode custom and notch out most pulltabs and still pick up nickles. When you turn it off and back on it will come back to the same program in this mode. This one is a keeper!

Frank,
Be careful notching out that Pull Tab range .....There's GOLD and Platinum in that range !!....There are so many varieties of Pull Tabs and they cover a pretty wide range ....Be carefull !!........Jim

:usaflag:I'd like so much to believe that...ha-ha !

I must have dug-up 20,000 pull-tabs this year...and not a single GOLD anything. But I'll keep diggin' because I have faith in those words...which I have heard just as many times. HH

I have found two gold rings so far and they both were dead on pull tab for ID. Dont have a clue as to how many tabs I have dug. I seem to be more willing to dig a lot of tabs early on in a hunt but as I get tired I tend to leave them. I know I should not but I can only get up and down so many times in a day. :)

I have dug 19 gold rings this year they were mostly found at the beach and in swimming areas location is very important on those gold ring finds. Dug a few in parks over the years but not many.

I think that I will now end up getting one of these machines for my " Catch me if you can " machines ......new drops will be in my bag, and on to the next one !!......I have from now till next Summer to get one ......Jim

Jerry,
You lost me !!.....Get up and down ? ......You don't have a scoop with a long handle ? .......The time you save checking for targets with a long handle scoop , it will pay for itself in no time , and you will be in better shape to hunt longer without killing yourself !!.....Do yourself a favor and get a long handled scoop !!....Jim

Hi Jim,

I was refering to digging in grass areas. I usually get down on one knee to pop a target out or dig a flap. A scoop does work great in the sand though.

Jerry

Even the relic hunters might have a hard time resisting a machine with that feature set.
