Target Trace

Does anyone have some really good experience with Target Trace? I was digging in heavy trash and noticing that I would get good high 12/30s and 12/40s signals and then dig iron nails. I checked the hole afterward and the signal was gone so I know I got the target. I just started noticing that the Triangle will fill in with a large amount of BLUE even though I'm getting a screaming dime signal and numbers. I wasn't digging any coins in this environment but kept watch to see if the circle would fill with Red. How strong will the Red inside the circle be when digging coins in trashy areas and how much will it fill depending on depth in any environment? Now that I've been detecting with the CTX for about a month, I'm going to try to pay more attention to what Target Trace does and doesn't help with.

Duke here's what I have found by using target trace. Red is a very strong indication that it is what the detector is telling you, blue is weaker indication of what it's telling you , clear circle is deep ,not as a solid indication as red or blue. Cursor filled in iron on the bottom and cursor filled at the top in the 40 to 41 range watch the cursor in the coin range if it's moving right to left it's likely a coin,if it's moving up and down it's likely iron .Also if the cursor in the coin range has a lot of small specs or has a meteorite spray around it probably iron. Coins in trashy environments , some come in full red and some come in clear circle same depth go figure. Still learning just make sure when you go to pinpoint that the place on the ground is where the good audio is coming from and pinpoints in that spot. The only other thing I would ad is a coin on edge will pinpoint off from where the good audio is coming from. Coins on edge have a double good audio and the target trace will stay the same on the screen and not move so if you have a coin that moves from where you pinpoint check if it was a double hit by sweeping it again. You will catch this coin with the leading edge of the coil and the trailing edge of the coil.sube

Great information Sube! Thanks!

Sube, do you leave Target Trace and Target Trace Pinpoint "on" at all times, and is there any disadvantage (e.g. recovery time) in doing so? Thanks.

I've been running Target Trace on all the time. I just started to pay more attention to it.

Sube,

Could you explain this some more; not entirely sure I understand whatyou are trying to say.

"Cursor filled in iron on the bottom and cursor filled at the top in the 40 to 41 range watch the cursor in the coin range if it's moving right to left it's likely a coin,if it's moving up and down it's likely iron"

Thanks,
Greg

Target Trace and Target Trace Pinpoint hold the images on the SmartScreen for a longer period of time than normal hunt mode. This allows for the image to "build up" a short history for us to see how it might change positions on the SmartScreen.
Image placement on the SmartScreen reflects the TID numbers. FE numbers count vertical, top down. CO numbers count horizontal, left to right. Therefore, as FE numbers change, the image on the SmartScreen will either go up or down the screen. As CO numbers change, the image on the screen will go left or right. I think the observation sube is making is that if it is the Ferrous value that fluctuates, causing the image to move up or down, it is likely iron. If it is the Conductive value that fluctuates, causing the image to move left or right, it is likely a coin. JMHO HH Randy

Col Douglas Yes I leave both on and hunt heavy trash , open screen .combine ferrous coin. fast on. I see no difference in speed . However when the trash is extremely thick like 10 to 15 hits a sweep you have to slow down to analyze all the signals that you are receiving. The detector here's and gives audio on all of them if your brain can keep up.sube

Sube and Digger,

Thanks for the replies, I will look more closely for this. If I am in a busy spot I usually don't dig unless I have a fairly well filled in round red cursor; maybe I have been passing good targets. I will go to a spot with plenty of targets and check some of the less defined targets.
