target sound

I have not gotten used to the sound of a good target in the pro mode. I seem to never get a good clear sound. Even on a coin, the sound is scratchy or even gives the impression that it might be iron. Is this normal?

Sorta, Seems like the sound is more "round" when you hit a good target. Still learning mine.

On junky targets like tinfoil, can-slaw and rusted iron. A coin, bullet or ring will give a smooth sound, usually in all 4 directions. Now a good target masked by some iron will give you some low grunts with some higher conductive targets giving some higher tones, either clear or not so clear. these are the targets that need further investigation. Dig them....it costs you nothing and will shorten your learning curve. It takes time to learn a metal detector.

I suggest you grab some good targets, lay them on the ground, run the coil over them in different directions and study their sounds. Next, grab some nails, and plant them both on the good target and also beside it. Now study the sounds again. You will surely get a good idea of how the AT Pro responds to various targets in different scenarios. Good luck:detecting: Don't forget to review some of the videos. Here's a good one with discrimination and tone:

Same issues here, it's frustrating learning what it's telling you in Pro Mode. Also is anyone getting a different depth on the target every time they pass the coil over it? Will pass the col over a solid hig tone and depth says 4 inches, swing by it again it says 10 inches. WTF Garrett
