I use the Prospecting mode on my X-70 for pinpointing the target while it is still in the ground. And for target sizing. Many times, a smashed aluminum can will read off like a coin. By using the Prospecting mode I can get a good idea of the size of the target before I dig it.
Once in awhile, when the hole is opened up, I don't instantly see the target. That is when I pull out my trusty VibraProbe. The nice thing about an electronic probe/pinpointer is that it will find those pesky things that you aren't necessarily looking for. By that I mean, sometimes you have your mind made up that the target is going to be round and shiny. You look and look and look. But nothing jumps out at you. A probe will pick up that tiny piece of scrap wire, lead slug, 22 cartridge casing or whatever it is that the detector located, that you don't see. Saves me lots of time sorting through dirt. Which equates to more time finding additional targets. HH Randy
