Target Probe and/or Pin Pointer Question

What is the advantage of using the Sunray DX-1 target probe over the Bullseye II pinpointer?
I have been kicking the idea around about purchasing one or the other and I really just do not know.
All I can tell by reading is that the Sunray is attached to the machine and the Bullseye is a "Back Pocket" item.
Any suggestion's?

Rob gave the good points - I'll give the bad. It's heavy, your machine will occasionally ground track and ground balance the ground to the pinpointer (not a huge issue because it will track back to the loop soon enough - just after you paas that barber half) and no matter how hard you try not to you WILL forget to switch it back to the loop and hunt for a good 30 minutes thinking the ground is just super clean.

To each his own. I've owned both and prefer a handheld. I think the garret pro pointer is the best pinpointer made by far.

More info is available at the SunRay Site, including tips for use with the V3. By the way it weighs 11 oz including the switch box, and I hardly notice it on my detector. An optional box mount is available for the probe if you don't want the weight of the 9 oz. probe on your rod. I have never hunted for 30 minutes with the probe on, but I have gone a minute or two a few times. You will soon learn to switch back to the coil after locating a target.

The Garrett Pro pointer is also a great handheld, but I prefer the DX-1.

My hunting partner has the DX-1, it seems to work pretty good, although sometimes he has trouble with it.I love my new Pistol Probe, it gets 3.5-4 in. of depth, you dig a plug check it and it finds the target every time! when i used the Bullseye or my Vibra Probe I had to be right on top of the target, within an inch.
Often I would dig and check, dig and check with nothing, not anymore. I vote Pistol Probe.

I had an inline for my xlt. I did like it but after I got it and used it for awhile, I decided I wished I hadn't spent the money. It does discriminate, which is good, but also bad. Imagine one of those nasty iron targets that actually read goodwhile in the ground. Yes, that happens sometimes. Then, once you dig the hole, it doesn't read good anymore and gets discriminated out. With the discrimination of an inline, you'll drive yourself crazy trying to find something that wasn't there to start with. I found it better to use a non discriminating probe. Remove the discriminated target, check the hole again with the detector. The inline didn't seem to pick up tiny targets once out of the ground as well as a handheld did either.

Yep, but I still love the DX-1 and would hate detecting without it.

If you squeeze the trigger to pinpoint, the DX-1 will go to all metal mode just like the full size coil, it will also go deeper depending on what you have the All Metal sensitivity set on. If I lose a target with the discrimination, I confirm the Iron target in all metal and fill the hole back in. No need to dig the iron and recheck.
