Target masking on the CZ-70......................

Kelley (Texas)

Can some of you folks tell me about your experiences with target masking? When using the CZ-70 in the "Preset" I.D. "normal" mode, when placing a pull tab next to a clad dime or clad quarter, there was no response. When the pull tabs are by themselves, I get a reading under the nickel icon. I need to read the owner's manual again, but I think that in "preset" mode, targets below foil are notched out...but I may be wrong. I am just learning how to use the CZ-70 and figured that I may be doing something wrong. Any suggestions or input would be much appreciated. Kelley (Texas) :)

For starters, don't run in preset. Don't notch anything out, as you want to listen to those tones. When you get a bigger-than-normal target that bounces around a couple different tones, it's probably a co-located, averaged target, with a coin and a pulltab, or a higher coina and a nickel.

It's been my experience, that when a nickel is placed very close to a dime, quarter, or penny, the signal gets averaged to pulltab. If a pulltab is placed close to a quarter, it gets averaged to Zinc cent.

Now, some pulltabs will come in solid Nickel. For better results, try a differently-shaped pulltab, or better yet, an older pullring. I think the pulltab you were using was one of those that imitates a Nickel. Also, Preset mode only allows Nickels, Zinc, and High Coin (at least that's where it's at on my CZ-5). Therefore, a closely co-located pulltab (that imitates a Nickel) and a quarter would average to Pulltab, and since it's notched out in Preset, won't sound off.

If I'm wrong, someone please enlighten me.

Tomorrow, I am going to set the discrimination to just eliminate iron. I suspect that the discrimination is set too high in the "PreSet" mode and caused the non-response when the pull tab with the tail was put next to the clad dime and clad quarter. Thanks for the information. Kelley (Texas) :)

by raising the coil off the ground a few inches at a time and move the coil slow and see if the target will seperate into something you can lock on. HH Jerry aka Tinfoil

You want to listen to the iron tones. This will let you know when you are in a junky area, where you need to slow down.

I set the CZ-70 where it would accept everything except Iron and the CZ-70 will now respond to the target. Many thanks for the help! Kelley (Texas) :)
