Target indicator meter

If it beeps dig it.

I think the meter is useless, it goes all the way over no matter what it is detecting.

It's been called a "kick meter" by the user's here in East Texas. You're supposed to get an Idea of the depth by how hard it kicks when the signal beeps. It's a sales gimmick more than anything else. I've never understood how this feature could remain. If anything, it shows the company has no clue of design. I disconnect mine internally-voids the warranty, probably-but I find it embarrasing to have since I like the detector but wouldn't want to try to explain to a knowledgeable person it's purpose. Not only that, but I was told years ago the circuit could be placed on a board the size of a credit card. It seems like, especially with the compact design of the Tesoro umaxes and their popularity, that a compact design would be more fitting. I still have the circuitboard from a Teknetics RoadRunner that IS the size of a credit card and am working as hard as possible to find a pot that was used as power/sensitivity to fit it , and am then going to try to work with the 10k pot that set the tones and by hook or crook get the detector I want. It's clear that the powers that be don't give a flip about what the customers want.

Odd as it may seem to you, customers want TK4's. That's why we keep crankin' 'em out.

Just about everybody has their own idea of their personal dream machine, and it's different from everyone else's dream machine. That's why manufacturers can't do 'em. Heck, I'm the chief engineer and I don't even get to build my own personal dream machine.

Yeah, you're right. My apologies to all. I guess I should be happy I can even still get one. By the way, Dave. I'm gonna put an old TK 4 71/4 coil on my new Tracker. Are the wires the same?. I heard the red and black wires were switched on the newer models. Thanks.

I suppose (though can't say for fact) that if your 7 inch coil was manufactured within the last 8 years, that it's wired the same. If the red and black are reversed, the machine responses will be weird but it won't harm anything, you can switch them and solve the problem. HOWEVER: the 7 inch coil is electrically a bit different from the 8 incher and so you may lose depth on buried targets, may hear ground noise, or may lose sensitivity to high conductivity targets.

Any target separation advantage of the 7 incher will be minimal. I recommend sticking with the 8 inch coil that's standard for the TK4.

Hmmmm. Strange. I will stick with the 8". Thanks
