Target in hole after 10 scoops or 20 minutes

Target in hole after 10 scoops or 20 minutes.
I have few of those ... dug a big hole with my scoop but there is no target.
Water is about 4ft there.
Sand is very compacted on surface and mostly firm under it.
I can step on scoop with all my weight but scoop is not going very far.
Holes in scoop are 8mm so nothing is lost there.
Scoop has square opening 14cm x 9 cm (5,5in x 3,5in)

It is lake - no waves to sand in the hole - not very fast.
Is there a solution... bigger scoop or TNT :)

Must try with a mask on or snorkel to see what is going on.
Visibility is poor as soon as I dig first scoop.

Lost time on those and crowd came so I did not get any good items this week.

Mask and snorkel is solution no.1 ... might me long chain that is bugging me.
Any suggestion?

If you have it pinpointed exactly and there aren't any significant rocks above it, you could use a soil coring tool.
I've experimented with a 4" diameter one in dirt but it wasn't practical on anything very deep. It did cut nice replaceable plugs in a lawn tho. A welder buddy is making me a 7" diameter version to try too.

It is 10.2" coil so no very accurate pinpoint but close enough for scoop size hole ...
I could use spade and made a square hole underwater... and try to remove some dirt.

Thanks Champ!

This site night be a good candidate for a shovel and a floating sieve.
